Yuan-ti are a race of monstrous evil snake-men. All yuan-ti seen in-game have a snake-like head, scaly humanoid upper torso, and a legless, snake-like lower body. They vary in size depending upon the type of Yuan-ti encountered and some are capable of casting spells.

Yuan-ti are infamous for worshipping the demonic god Sseth and feeling deep hatred towards scaleless humanoid races. Usually inhabiting the jungles in the southern parts of Toril, they are rarely found within the Sword Coast.

The majority of standard warrior Yuan-ti encountered in the saga are the 7 HD 48 HP version. A slightly more powerful version is found in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition chapter 8 as part of the Neera questline in Throne of Bhaal.

Note: The standard Yuan-ti has no proficiency with a Long Sword or any weapon except for "Spiked Weapons". As the creatures do not wield those weapon types, there are no proficiency bonuses applied to this creature, unlike the BG2EE (ohnyuan) version, which do benefit from properly set weapon proficiency.

The (ohnyuan) version is scripted to use their carried Potion of Extra Healing if wounded and triggered at a predefined threshold.

Mods[]

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod makes revisions to all Yuan-ti's in the game. The warrior types have new default SCS fighter scripts for improved tactical awareness and targeting behavior. The script also provides use of carried potions if they have them.

Additionally, the creature is assigned a Fighter Class and given proper weapon proficiencies - 4 pips in Long Sword proficiency and 2 pips in single weapon fighting style. This improves THAC0, APR, weapon damage and armor class.

Extra Hit Points are present to reflect their Fighter Class, as well as improved DEX and CON scores. These revisions will make the creatures less fragile and increase challenge commensurate with their D&D size and creature lore.

Afaaq the Djinni Companion mod quest will see the party having to teleport to the Jungles of Chult where extensive and tougher Yuan-ti adversaries are encountered. More Yuan-ti's are present in this scenario than the any other unmodified area of the BG2 Saga.
