Baldur's Gate Wiki

Yaga-Shura Mage is a male human wizard encountered in the Sewers beneath Saradush during Chapter Eight. There are two of them positioned in different places in the sewers.

Gameplay[]

This mage from Yaga-Shura's besieging forces has some unique immunities innately present, and they can't be removed - he has no dialogue and is already hostile.

When an enemy is detected, he'll release his instantly applied preparatory buff chain and then proceed to attempt to cast the spells shown on the InfoBox - note that several of these spells are "ReallyForceSpell" cast and can't be interrupted/prevented.

However, many spells are cast normally and can be interrupted.

The mage has no ability to recognize opponent protections/spell defenses and won't adjust his spell casting based on that - he also has no ability to remove buffs/magic from the party at all.

Still, he can pose some hazards to the unprepared and vulnerable, and a few of his spells may damage his allies as well, such as with Sunfire or if he summons an Efreeti, who'll callously discharge fireball spells near friend/foe.

The mage won't engage in melee combat until all his memorized spells are depleted.

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod makes a few revisions to this mage type creature; a new default smarter mage AI script is furnished, as well as an assigned random mage kit (Conjurer, Enchanter, Invoker or Necromancer). The mage's spell book will reflect the kit assigned.

The mage has a random potion furnished for scripted use for buffing/healing purposes.

The mage will now be able to raise a chain of pre-battle buffs much more extensively than the unmodded game and will have uses of Minor Sequencer, Spell Sequencer, Spell Trigger, and possibly Contingency ready to deploy.

A full spellbook of memorized magic will be available, with the means to take down party buffs/protections (which the mage can recognize) such as Remove Magic, Spell Thrust, Breach and Ruby Ray of Reversal for example.
