Casting Wish is like gambling, as although potent, it grants random wishes.

Greetings to you, spellweaver. Are you ready to begin negotiations?

—  summoned Djinni

Every time a Wish spell is cast, a Djinni is summoned and addresses the wizard. The player is presented with 5 possible wishes randomly selected from a pool and invited to pick one. The selected wish will be cast instantaneously, targeted on self like a Stoneskin or a Sunfire.

Things to keep in mind when reading wish descriptions:

  • Enhanced Editions two letters logoBaldur's Gate I & II: Enhanced Editions
This icon indicates content from all Enhanced Editions of the Baldur's Gate games. May situationally encompass Siege of Dragonspear and The Black Pits I & II content as well.
In BG2:EE, all effects are considered level 9, without exception.
  • Unless specified otherwise, the wishes do not break caster invisibility.
For instance, the wishes Wing Buffet, Horrid Wilting, Power Word Silence, Meteor Swarm and Slow do maintain the caster invisible, even if their "real spell" counterparts do not.
  • Unless specified otherwise, the wishes do not turn neutral creatures hostile.
  • When a wish targets all party members, the party's clones and summons are never affected.
  • When a wish targets all creatures within area except party members, the party's clones and summons are always affected.
The only wish that targets enemies *only* is this Breach.
  • Because they are the caster's own spells, he cannot block any wish with Spell Immunity, as per this spell's specifics. Spell Immunity will work for allies and creatures other than the caster.

Effects[]

Wish is a more potent version of the Limited Wish spell. It will fulfill literally the utterance of the spellcaster. Thus, the actuality of the past, present, or future might be altered (but possibly only for the wizard unless the wording of the spell is most carefully stated) in some limited manner. Greedy desires usually end in disaster for the wisher. Lastly, the wiser the wizard, the better chance that <PRO_HESHE> will choose the right wording. Wizards with low Wisdom will more often than not meet with disaster when asking for a wish.

Gameplay[]

The Wisdom score of the character speaking to the Djinni determines which one of the 4 pools of wishes is used. Once the dialogue box has displayed the 5 random wishes, the player cannot back down and must pick one of them.

Wisdom 18+[]

Starting from Wisdom 18, the pool of random wishes is the following. Each individual wish has a 20% chance to be one of the 5 dialogue choices every time the main Wish spell is cast.

Heal all Strength 18 Miscast Magic Magic Resistance Horrid Wilting
Intoxication Bad luck Haste all Haste party Breach enemies
Restoration Raise stats 25 Resurrection Greater Deathblow Hardiness
Wand Potion Rest Time Stop Haste "enemies"
Level drain Halve HP -10,000gp Meteor Swarm Wisdom 3

Wisdom 15-17[]

From 15 to 17 Wisdom, the pool of random wishes is the following. Each individual wish has around 18% chance to be one of the 5 dialogue choices every time the main Wish spell is cast.

Breach all Blow away Heal all Strength 18 Miscast Magic
Magic Resistance Horrid Wilting Intoxication Bad luck Silence
Haste party Breach enemies Raise stats 25 Resurrection Greater Deathblow
Wand Potion Rest Time Stop Heal "enemies"
Haste "enemies" Summon hostile -15% HP party Lose spells Strength 3
Wisdom 3 Dexterity 3

Wisdom 10-14[]

From 10 to 14 Wisdom, the pool of random wishes is the following. Each individual wish has around 18% chance to be one of the 5 dialogue choices every time the main Wish spell is cast.

Breach all Blow away Heal all Strength 18 Miscast Magic
Magic Resistance Horrid Wilting Intoxication Bad luck Silence
Haste all Breach enemies Restoration Greater Deathblow Hardiness
Wand Potion Rest Heal "enemies" Haste "enemies"
Level drain Halve HP Lose spells Strength 3 Constitution 3
Dexterity 3 Intelligence 3 Slow

Wisdom 9 and below[]

Up to 9 Wisdom, the pool of random wishes is the following. Each individual wish has around 19% chance to be one of the 5 dialogue choices every time the main Wish spell is cast.

Breach all Blow away Heal all Strength 18 Miscast Magic
Magic Resistance Horrid Wilting Intoxication Bad luck Restoration
Greater Deathblow Hardiness Wand Potion Heal "enemies"
Haste "enemies" Summon hostile Level drain Halve HP -15% HP party
Lose spells Strength 3 Constitution 3 Dexterity 3 Intelligence 3
Slow

Notes[]

  • There are 37 individual wishes available to the player.
  • In Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, just like the Djinni from Limited Wish, the Wish Djinni will only talk to the caster. He will disappear after 60 seconds if unable to detect them.
  • In Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, another party member can initiate dialogue and their Wisdom will be used instead of the caster's. In that case, the term caster in the wish descriptions below should refer to the speaking character, with the possible exception of Time Stop, Halve HP and Lose spells. These three may still apply to the actual caster.  [verification needed]

With Sword Coast Stratagems mod installed, and especially with the "Smarter Mages" component, enemy spell casters do use the Wish spell against the party in certain encounters in late SoA and in ToB.

Spell Revisions mod has changed this arcane spell, revising its Spell School to 'Universal". See below:
