Welther may appear during the quest Find the kidnappers who buried Tirdir if Gorion's Ward doesn't free Lady Elgea right away.

Gameplay[]
Based on the party's dialogue with Lady Elgea during the questline and following the text described in the Ransom Note, the ward needs to look for someone named Welther in front of the Copper Coronet after nightfall. As a reminder, the note reads:

If the Ward decides to do this, collecting the ransom for the kidnapped lady, then this is an act that isn't going to viewed as virtuous by most, that is for certain.
After sunset, Welther should be standing where he said he was going be, and the party must initiate dialogue.
Work through the dialogue replies as desired, and there is one last chance to back out of this with the obvious dialogue reply, if not then eventually you'll receive the promised reward, the BG easter egg component, the Silver Pantaloons, and you have to tell Walther where to find Lady Elgea. Afterward Walther will say, "Our deal is done. May you rot for what you have done."
The party loses 2 Reputation points for this act.
A journal entry will register:
- Journal entry: Ransom collected for Lady Elgea
- I met Welther in front of the Copper Coronet and received the ransom that was originally intended for Camitis and Reti. Lady Elgea's location has been given to Welther. Returning to that house might not be such a good idea.
If Minsc, Jaheira or Valygar Corthala are current companions they have remarks about this deed and basically are disgusted or at best think the Ward careless.
Viconia DeVir on the other hand, she finds this delicious irony and is encouraged by the Ward's actions.

Pickpocketing the pantaloons is possible before speaking to Welther, with a 50 difficulty for being a quick item slot item, not too hard to do - then if desired, just never speak with Welther, and avoid the reputation loss for being a bastard.
