Web Tangle is an innate spell ability assigned to the Kitthix huge spider creature released/summoned by the Black Spider Figurine item.

Effects[]

The player selects Kitthix's special ability menu and selects the spell icon button (which has 2-"charges"/uses when first summoned onto the battlefield.

Once selected, place the targeting cursor onto any desired single creature to launch the web.

A rapid projectile launches to the targeted creature, and they are exposed to the spell effect - a Saving throw versus Spell with a 2-point penalty is allowed to resist it - a text will display <Target creature name>: Web Tangle.

If the save is failed, the following will occur:

  • A web overlay graphic is rendered onto the target creature, and the Webbed status effect is applied.
  • A Paralyze status effects is also applied, and the creature is Helpless.
  • A sound effect is audibled.
  • A player character will show an icon (No. 81) titled "Webbed" on their portrait.

The spell effect has a duration of 2-rounds (12 seconds).

Magic resistance can potentially block this web tangle, and any applicable Dispel Magic effect can remove it.

However, the spell has 0 Power level and belongs to no school of magic, so no Spell protections type defenses can stop it/turn it, and any creature can potentially be affected by it, such as a Lich, Rakshasa, Demogorgon, and Amelyssan for example.

Targets that are immune to the Paralyze and Webbed status effects won't be affected by this spell or made helpless.

The Sword Coast Stratagems and Spell Revisions mods both make a number of adjustments to many spells in the game, including innate ones, as well as Web Tangle.

This spell will now require a Saving throw versus Breath instead of spell, the secondary type is changed to disabling instead of battleground, range is reduced to visual range of the caster, 30-feet, casting speed reduced from 2 to 1, and the entire webbing idea is now non-magical, so it is unaffected by magic resistance or dispelling.

If this spell affects a creature, it can elicit a hostile reaction, which it does not in the unmodded game.
