This is the Watcher's Keep - White Dragon Scales area of the Watcher's Keep Teleport Maze. This area is available during Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition saga, as early as Chapter 2. It is also available as part of the Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal campaign if playing the original or Enhanced Edition game.

Area description[]

The party has seen this room's architectural layout and decor twice before in the room's with Tahazzar and Ka'rashur.

The only discernable immediate difference her is the various piles of scattered bones and equipment scattered about the floor.

Resting on this dungeon level[]

There is a random probability of being disturbed by infernal fiends if resting here. "You are awakened from your rest" will be shown on the combat log, and the enemies can include a Vampiric Wraith and Devil Shade group.

Gameplay[]

The party enters this room transiting through the northern portal.

Attention to the fact that this area has several potentially hazardous traps. It is possible that any movement forward could kill one or more party members. Taking control of the party and micromanaging their movement, perhaps disabling any automatic melee attacking scripts, and similar action could help prevent this. Having a thief that can detect and disarm traps is useful.

Casting the Find Traps spell can be a quick way to at least know where they are.

Upon entry, the party will observe a creature with an undead appearance positioned further south. The creature is a Demon Wraith.

The demon makes an opening remark in a hollow and chilling voice, saying:

Aha! More mortal "adventurer" fools to add to my collection! Go, my slaves... gather the pretties for me!

This triggers the demon's initial protective spell casting chain and will also cause the appearance of several hostile Slave Wraith creatures in the chamber.

The slaves will occasionally show various text displays that indicate they can't help themselves from attacking and are being forced to obey the demon.

The slaves will move toward the closest party member they can detect (they also See the invisible) and will attack in melee touch weapon range.

Spell casting will continue from the demon, and it will try and get a Time Stop spell completed, and then place a few symbol spells at the nearest party member, or perhaps a Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting.

After that, the demon will advance and melee attack. If the party's XP levels are greater than 16, it will also cast Disintegrate, Finger of Death (wizard), Domination and Prismatic Spray, repeatedly until it is unable to, or destroyed.

If any slave wraiths are still viable when the demon is destroyed, every surviving slave awards 5,000 XP. The slaves give thanks for releasing them from their bondage.

Treasure[]

There are a number of "piles" of loot that can be examined and plundered for treasure in this area. These are ostensibly from fallen adventurers destroyed by the Demon Wraith.

Mod content[]

Mods icon This section is about unofficial content that is only available via fan-made mods.

The Golem Construction for Spellcasters mod places a rare component, a "Mithral alloy", in one of the piles of loot in this room. The alloy can be used by an arcane spell caster to build their own Mithral Golem, assuming other requirements and a special tome are also on-hand.
