A powerful wand which the user can choose to fire a charge to manifest either Breach or Pierce Magic spell effects.

Both of these wand abilities are of the Magic attack type in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition only, meaning they will not penetrate Spell Shield. Each charge used by the wand will be blocked by Spell Shield and consume the Spell Shield. This is a fix to an oversight in the basic game.

The Pierce Magic spell belongs to the Spell protection removers category.

Description[]

Ironically, these wands are both prized and hated by wizards. They can tear down an enemy mage's defenses, but of course every mage knows the wands can also be turned against themselves.

STATISTICS:

Charge abilities: - Breach: Dispels all specific and combat protections on 1 target, range 40 feet.

- Pierce Magic: Lowers target's Magic Resistance by 20% for 2 turns and removes one spell protection from target. Range is 40 feet.

Requires: 9 Intelligence.

Weight: 1.

Gameplay[]

This wand instantly casts a Breach or Pierce Magic spell effect (not an actual Breach or Pierce Magic Spell). Both effects are coded as Abjuration School and Magic Attack Type.

The basic game: Breach in the basic game can be blocked by Spell Shield (which is then consumed). This wand's Breach effect was miscoded, and Spell Shield does not work against it.

Breach in the basic game cannot affect creatures immune to level 5 spells, like a Lich or Rakshasa. This means that there was no way to ever Breach a Lich, including using this wand.

Breach or Pierce Magic cannot penetrate a Protection from Magic scroll.

The EE game: All of the Breach and Pierce magic rules are the same as the basic game, however, this wand is now fixed and coded properly.

See the Breach Spell Description page for further details, including Mod content for Breach.

Notes[]

This wand exists in the code of Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, but makes no in-game appearance.
