Wand of Cloudkill is a wand which can be used to launch a projectile at an area designated by the user within range. The projectile flies forth to the selected location and then it bursts out a billowing cloud of toxic gas. This item appears in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition.

Description[]

This wand emits a vapor bubble that travels towards the target exploding into a deadly cloud of noxious gas that expands to fill an area roughly 20 feet in radius. The cloud will instantly kill any creature with 4 HD or less with no saving throw. Any creature within 5 to 6 HD must make a saving throw or be slain. Creatures with greater than 6 HD simply take 1-10 damage for every round that they remain within the cloud. The cloud will dissipate after approximately 1 turn.

Gameplay[]

This wand does not actually cast a Cloudkill spell but emulates it.

The wand has a range of 60', an area effect of 20' radius and can target a single location which will be selected with the player's cursor.

It fires with a speed of 0 (zero), so it is almost instantly discharged.

All of the Wand's effects are set at Spell Power level 5. The wand is coded as an Invocation School and is "Battleground" secondary type.

All of the wand's effects can be blocked by magic resistance, but it bypasses Mirror Image.

It will Slay nonimmune 1-4 HD creatures instantly. 5-6 HD creatures must make a saving throw each round exposed or they too will be killed. Any creature within the cloud is exposed to 1d10 Poison damage every round.

Creatures immune to Poison damage or Poison are protected from the wand's effects and will not be disrupted from spell casting - which was a problem in the original game but fixed in a recent version of the Enhanced Edition.

Once deployed, the cloud can't be removed from the battlefield area except by a Wing Buffet or Zone of Sweet Air.
