Background[]
An adventurer from Luskan, also known as Voghiln the Mighty or Voghiln the Vast.
Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear[]
Recruitment[]
“ | A fine group and a fine beer! Now all I need is a fine woman. | ” |
Voghiln is available from Chapter 9, he can be found at the far north-eastern section of the Troll Claw Woods alongside Jaheira (coordinates: x=3700, y=270). He will mistake you for a Crusader, but his Harper companion stops him before he can attack you. Jaheira then goes on to inform you about Khalid being trapped in the Bridgefort, which is under siege by Caelar's crusade. Even though he is traveling with Jaheira, the game doesn't require you to bring both of them along at the same time.
Relationships[]
- Female Protagonist: Voghiln will hit on the protagonist, if they are female. The player has the option to start a romance with him.
- Safana: These two will have an affair behind the protagonist's back.
Gameplay[]
Voghiln is a versatile party member whose stats allow him to play many roles on the battlefield. By default he is equipped with Voghiln's Helmet, Bracers of Defense AC 6, Warhammer +1, Buckler +1, 40 Throwing Axes +1, and 40 Throwing Axes. He also has 5 Potions of Healing, 2 Potions of Freedom and 1 Potion of Mind Focusing. As a bard, he is the only recruitable party member who can use bard-only magic items and equipment like musical instruments. His Skald Song gives every party member in reach +2 to-hit, +2 dmg and +2 AC.
As a Skald, he has excellent Lore progression, making him perfect for identifying magic items on the cheap, but pitiful pickpocketing, to the point where it hardly matters what his Dexterity is. If you need him to pickpocket a target, give him at least one Potion of Master Thievery to drink first. His Charisma is low for a Bard but can be boosted by the Friends spell, whether by casting from his spell book or Brevin's Quarterstaff as a charge ability, making him an excellent party leader when shopping.
Recommended equipment:
- Elven Chain Mail: Grants him an Armour Class of 5 and doesn't disable spellcasting. Stackable with a ring/cloak/amulet of protection.
- Raconteur's Regalia: Grants the same Armour Class as the above with better modifiers, doesn't disable spellcasting and grants a small boost to his Pick Pockets skill. Not stackable with a ring/cloak/amulet of protection.
- Bard Hat: Very useful for support/spellcasting, as it increases the duration of his Skald Song and prevents Silence or Deafness
- Peacock Cap: Boosts Charisma. As a Bard Voghiln receives a +2 instead of +1. Useful for shopping. Combine with Ostentatious Boots and Algernon's Cloak or Nymph Cloak to boost his Charisma to 20.
- Cloak of Minor Arcana: Useful for increasing his caster level and Lore.
- Reed of Echoes: Grants several extra spell slots.
- Tangled Strings: Dispels Confusion and Confusion-like status effects.
- Flute of the Immaculate Breeze: Dispels area-of-effect spells like Stinking Cloud.
- Screaming Bagpipes: Useful for disabling enemy spellcasters via deafening, though the damage is less effective than for a Jester.
- The Forest Queen's Benediction: Useful for a quick group heal. Note that due to his 10 Wisdom, Voghiln cannot use this without drinking a Potion of Insight, using all three Tomes of Understanding or editing his Wisdom with EEKeeper.
His initial weapon proficiencies are:
Character Level | Proficiencies EE |

He knows the following spells at recruitment:
Blindness, Chromatic Orb (stun), Identify, Mirror Image, Flame Arrow, Haste, Slow, Invisibility 10' Radius, Enchanted Weapon, Stoneskin
Biography[]
“ | When asked about his past, Voghiln speaks at considerable length of his travels in the North. Originally from Luskan, Voghiln felt the call of adventure and set out on a journey to the Spine of the World. For the next few years, he traveled among the northernmost countries, including Vaasa and the Silver Marches, building up his repertoire and his reputation as a skald. Near the story's end, Voghiln hastily glosses over a bit where he decided to travel south for a time. No amount of persuasion convinces him to reveal why he truly left the North. Instead, Voghiln said, he came north chasing new adventures and new "womans." Despite his fondness for drink and his propensity for chasing skirts, Voghiln is a brave and talented companion who is eager to see the crusade come to an end—mostly so that he can write about it. |

Dialogues[]
Augh, mine head! By the Oakfather's leafy arse, I've never met a woman who could drink like that! One minute I'm singing with an ale in one hand and a wench in the other, and then I wake up here... Where in the Nine Hells am I?
I do not know why we were brought here. I am thinking I was snatched for my fame in fighting, drinking, and my way with the ladies.
Ho ho, what have we here? Come raise a flagon with me! We'll drink till we die in the arena... or the bar. The bar is more likely for me.
Voghiln's the name. A fighter, drinker, and lover... though not necessarily in that order.
Good at fighting? You could say that. I killed a dozen tundra yeti barehanded! Barehanded! You've heard of tundra yeti, yes?
Twice as tall as a man and thrice as wide. Claws and fangs like daggers. Reminds me of me, now I think of it, except for the claws and fangs, of course.
I was escorting a caravan from the Ten Towns south to Luskan. We made camp for the night. I told them not to, but they didn't listen to Voghiln.
In the middle of the night, a pack of yetis attacked. In the chaos, I lost my axe. I had to rip one of their hairy arms off and use it to club the others to death.
The devils had killed the oxen and most of the guards. I had to pull the wagons to Luskan myself, fighting yetis and bandits the whole way!
Saying Voghiln knows a thing or two about women is like saying Elminster can cast a few spells! I know things about women they don't even know about themselves. |
Personality[]
Voghiln is stereotypical Viking-type: He loves to drink, he loves to fight and loves to have beautiful women around him. Ideally all at once. All of that is crowned with an over-the-top Saxon accent. And let's not forget that he likes speaking of himself in third person. Underneath his rude behavior and his inability to be faithful however, lurks a funny and charming fellow who's got his heart in the right place.
Trivia[]
- Voghiln is one of the many characters in the Enhanced Editions, including the other two companions: Rasaad and Baeloth, who is voiced by Mark Meer.
