Baldur's Gate Wiki

Visaj is a drow mage who resides in Ust Natha and will make up to two appearances in Baldur's Gate II Chapter 5.

Hold, friends. I have heard of your prowess, of late... perhaps you will have interest in a business proposal of mine.

— Visaj

Gameplay[]

After being asked to fetch blood of a neighboring race by the Matron Mother Ardulace, Visaj will spawn/appear on a city pathway between Qilue's Home and Deirex's Tower, and protection from the lich within.

When a party member is within a set distance, he will initiate dialogue.

He'll ask you to buy the Gilded Rope from him. A series of dialogue selections and choices will determine the outcome of the offer. Should the party obtain the magical rope the understanding is that this will allow entry to Deirex's Tower.

If the party turns down Visaj's offer, he will say that if you change your mind to speak with him again - and Visaj just remains in this spot.

Visaj is the initiator of getting that side quest Intrigue with Jarlaxle underway, but it won't progress any further unless the party obtains the rope, and then enters the tower. More information about this is on the Intrigue with Jarlaxle article.

Should the party decide that attacking Visaj is something desired, note that this can certainly occur. If he's attacked before he initiates dialogue then Visaj will become hostile, as will the entire drow city. Likewise, if he's attacked after the party declines his offer to buy the rope, the same thing will happen.

However, if the party attacks Visaj after obtaining the rope, then he won't turn hostile, and the city remains passive. After the party obtains the rope, Visaj walks away from the party and will eventually leave the map. During that period, he can be killed.

Oddly enough, if Visaj is killed - he'll still appear again with Jarlaxle later. No mention of his being killed will even be brought up in dialogue. This seems very bizarre indeed.

If the party elects to attack Visaj and Jarlaxle later in the Intrigue with Jaraxle quest, then the mage will defend himself and participate in battle using his spells.
