Vampiric Wraiths are encountered as scripted and random spawns in a few locations in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition and the Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.


This Undead wraith-mist is a more formidable variant of a Vampiric Mist, and have all their abilities including draining levels, immunity to backstab, non-magical weapons, and can naturally see invisible or hidden creatures. They are supposed to regenerate 2 HP per second under their permanent Weak Haste. See the Bugs section, below.

It has tendrils that are considered non-magical weapons with enchantment +3. This means that Protection From Normal Weapons, Mantle will work against the attacks, but not Protection From Magical Weapons.

The mist's tendrils inflict 2d4 Slashing damage plus 10 points of Magical damage, and the hit also heals 4 hit points up to the wraith's maximum. There is also a 50% chance of exposing the target to a Level drain effect. The level drain can only be prevented by immunity to that status effect, for example, with the Negative Plane Protection spell or wearing the Amulet of Power.

The creature can forcecast the Invisibility spell on itself when damaged below 50% HP. While invisible, the script may have the creature launch a Larloch's Minor Drain at a nearby opponent, or to move away for a period of time (presumably to heal/reevaluate), or it might simply attack with its melee weapon from invisibility - these actions are scripted with some random probabilities. The Invisibility may be reapplied, as there is no limit to this spell's use by the wraith, but it probably won't survive very long due to its relatively fragile hit points.
