Baldur's Gate Wiki

Valley of the Tombs is one of the areas from the World Map.

The Valley of the Tombs is also known as the Area East of Carnival.

Encounters[]

  • Near the extreme northern portion of the area, at 2085.185 is a "little group of Amazons". As it transpires, that diminutive is not only condescending but mistaken, as the quartet of women warriors are considerably more capable, even adept, compared with the would-be assassins so far. If the area is entered from the north, it is quite possible that the party will encounter Lamalha and her friends immediately.
  • The thief Hentold at 1236.2900 is in great distress and barely comprehensible, rambling and repeating himself.
  • Narcillicus Harwilliger Neen at 3785.2785 is exulting in his success at building a bigger and better Ooze, and perhaps more importantly, one that will not eat its creator.
  • Scattered throughout the area are four of what appear to be the entrances of mine shafts. While one leads to nowhere, the other three lead to some interesting outcomes.

Transitions[]

Valley of the Tombs nashkel mine exit BGEE

Nashkel Mine exit point

The party can travel here through a exit point on the fourth level of the Nashkel Mines, exiting in this area without any travel time, but with no possibility of traveling back to the mine unless they return to the main entrance of the mine. Note that it takes 16 hours to travel from here to the town of Nashkel and 24 hours to travel to the Nashkel mines.

Transition notes:[]

Note 1: Yes, with Tales of the Sword Coast installed, Durlag's Tower may be discovered by exiting this area from either the north or the west. To make matters even more strange, although area connections are almost always symmetrical, this area cannot be discovered from Durlag's Tower at all. This seems to only apply to the original Baldur's Gate and earlier versions of the Enhanced Edition since Durlag's Tower is now undiscoverable from this location in the current patch of BGEE (2.3) because the tower has been moved by the dungeon masters to the east of Mutamin's garden.

Note 2: Curiouser and curiouser! Adoy's Enclave can be discovered by leaving this area in any direction. The Enclave will be revealed only if Neera has activated her companion quest by asking Gorion's Ward's help in finding Adoy. In some versions of the game, the party may have to leave this area from its northern border to discover Adoy's Enclave.

Connections from Area East of Carnival as they appear on a pre-BGEE (2.3) version of the Enhanced Edition of the World Map. The geographic name often given to this area (East of Carnival) has been somewhat compromised by this map, but it is still accurate enough in that leaving Carnival by its eastern border will reveal this area.
