Unlocking the Final Seal is a side quest available Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
The quest is a "side quest" because all content in Watcher's Keep is optional and not mandatory to complete the main story - however, this quest is mandatory if attempting to complete the Watcher's Keep storyline.

Acquisition[]
The quest is initially registered in the player's journal by engaging with the Helmite Ghost, or the Globe Machine.
Interacting with The Spirit Altar won't register the quest unless the party has possession of the Warrior's Skull, which can only be obtained by engaging with the Helmite Ghost.
It is probably optimal to start with the Helmite Ghost first when exploring and solving the Final Seal.

Registering the quest[]
If the player engages with any of the three challenge options, the quest is registered into the journal, as follows:
- Journal entry: Unlocking the final seal
- I will have to prove myself worthy in mind, heart, and spirit before I can unlock the final seal, which guards the stairs to the next level of the dungeon.
Completing the Helmite Ghost's challenges[]
After completing all three challenges required by the Helmite Ghost and obtaining the Heart Key - the player's journal updates, as follows:
- Journal entry: Unlocking the final seal
- By running the gauntlet, I have proven my perseverance, my courage, and the wisdom of my heart. However, I suspect I must possess all three keys—heart, mind, and spirit—before the final seal can be unlocked.
Completing the Globe Machine challenge[]
After the party correctly places all the colored globes in the correct colored containers and obtains the Mind Key - the player's journal updates, as follows:
- Journal entry: Unlocking the final seal
- I have solved the puzzle of the colored globes and proved myself worthy in mind. However, I suspect I must possess all three keys—heart, mind, and spirit—before the final seal can be unlocked.
Completing the Spirit Warrior's challenge[]
After completing the Spirit Warrior adventure challenges and obtaining the Spirit Key - the player's journal updates, as follows:
- Journal entry: Unlocking the final seal
- I have completed the challenge of the Eternal Warrior and have proven the worth of my spirit. However, I suspect I must possess all three keys—heart, mind, and spirit—before the final seal can be unlocked.
Completing the quest[]
When the party has unlocked each pedestal adjacent to the final seal (and by extension faced the various guardians), then the party may turn the wheel to open the final seal.
Turning the wheel displays a text, reading:
- You turn the wheel, and the portal is opened.
This triggers the final journal entry for the quest, as follows:
- Journal entry: Unlocking the final seal
- Unlocking the final seal With the heart, mind, and spirit, keys I have unlocked the final seal. The path to the crypt of the Imprisoned One is now open.
The player's journal is updated, certain entries are removed, and the quest is marked as finished.
The party may now transition through the new portal leading below when ready to do so.
