Tsolak is a vampire in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear. He is the target of the vampire hunt undertaken by Isabella and Ikros.
Meeting[]
If the side quest Isabella and Ikros is accepted, Tsolak appears when the two hunters are spoken to at night.
| “ | My name is Tsolak, though that is of little consequence. What matters is that I've done no harm to these fanatics so bent on my destruction. I ask you, is this right? | ” |
He first presents himself as unjustly persecuted and hints at an important mission, but when pressed, admits to being the kind of predator the hunters claim he is, leaving behind dead in his wake.
| “ | I am what I am, but even a creature such as I can serve a purpose in this world. Let me pass and you will be richly rewarded by my master. | ” |
Tsolak refuses to identify his master or his mission, stressing only that his master is wealthy. At this point Gorion's Ward must choose: support the vampire hunters, or side with Tsolak in return for his promise of reward.
Battle[]
Tsolak's abilities are typical for a vampire: Level drain and Domination, both of which can hinder the frontline if successful. He also summons Dire Wolves which may disrupt unprotected party members more than Tsolak himself.
Tsolak cannot be killed outright through damage. After sustaining injury, he transforms into his Gaseous Form and retreats into his cave. There, he can be destroyed permanently with a Wooden Stake provided by Isabella. If staking is delayed for two days, Tsolak regenerates and escapes.
Cave[]
Despite traveling toward Athkatla in Amn, Tsolak has secured a temporary hideout. The approach is protected by four traps.
Inside lies a natural cavern containing his coffin and a chest. The coffin is occupied during the day even before the battle, making it possible to bypass the initial encounter and stake him immediately if a Wooden Stake is available.
If Isabella and Ikros are both dead, slaying Tsolak grants 9,000 XP, intended as compensation for missing their quest reward. However, if Isabella is dead, Ikros does not provide this XP. A reward-minded player may therefore want to kill Ikros before heading off to stake Tsolak.
Once destroyed, Tsolak's possessions can be looted from the coffin.
Journal Entries[]
- Isabella and/or Ikros are alive; Tsolak was never forced into his Gaseous Form:
Isabella and Ikros
If I visit the hunters' camp I may gain a reward.
I found a vampire in a cave and drove a stake through its heart. The creature collapsed into dust. There were a pair of vampire hunters nearby; perhaps they will reward me for my deed.

With a single swift motion, I impaled the vampire's corpse. All the vitality leached out of it at once, and what was left of the body sagged in upon itself. I should return to the hunters' camp.

Cooperation[]
When Isabella and Ikros are slain, Tsolak retreats, briefly thanking Gorion's Ward and promising to send a messenger.
- Journal entry:
I should watch for the vampire's messenger.
I was set to hunt the vampire when it started explaining its position. Its arguments were compelling. In the end, I sided with Tsolak against the hunters. I'm to watch for its messenger and a reward.
One day later, in an outdoor area, a nameless Messenger approaches bearing Tsolak's gratitude and the Trollblood Ioun Stone. The party also gains 9,000 XP, completing the quest.
- Journal entry:
I have received my promised reward from the vampire.
I expected the vampire Tsolak might betray me and was prepared to battle him after all. My suspicions proved unfounded, though. A messenger just arrived with a reward from Tsolak. It's a strange world where a vampire can be so trustworthy.
Exploits[]
- Tsolak can be killed during the initial battle with HP-independent Slay-effects, yielding his normal 8,500 XP. This produces duplicates of Tsolak's Scroll and the Boot and a Half of Speed, though neither item serves a purpose. Hoach Randymonk will not accept a second commission without cheats.
- After receiving Tsolak's promise of a reward, he can be killed physically then destroyed in his coffin in the cave using the Wooden Stake (after looting / pickpocketing the from Isabella). This will also reward you the Trollblood Ioun Stone and 9000 exp from his Messenger the following day.
Trivia[]
Tsolak and Hexxat both serve the mysterious figure L. It has been suggested that Tsolak was connected to content originally planned for Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, but cut the mixed reception of Siege of Dragonspear.
