Troll Breakout is a side quest in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear.

Acquiring[]

Head to the eastern half of the Dragonspear Castle Exterior area, through the gate past Deneld. Speak to Sindret the troll tamer, who is having problems wrangling a would-be escapee. She tells Gorion's Ward to retrieve a set of special troll shackles from a box in the north-western area of the camps, just below Commander Dreon.

Once the shackles are retrieved, she demands that Gorion's Ward be the one to shackle the troll. The player can attempt to either force Sindret to do it herself, find a peaceful solution, or simply attempt to subdue the troll with violence.

Forcing Sindret[]

Demanding that Sindret solve her own troll mess requires Charisma ≥ 16. If successful, the quest is completed and the player earns 4,000 EXP. If the check is failed, Sindret and her men turn hostile; Sindret is worth 2,000 EXP, and her men are worth 420 EXP each.

Violent pacification[]

If the player attempts to beat the troll into submission, it is possible to succeed, but it is also possible that the troll may be killed in the battle.

Successfully subduing the troll grants 4,000 EXP and rewards potions of Power, Magic Protection, Heroism, Clarity, and Freedom.

Killing it in the attempt results in 4,000 EXP, plus the troll's own 1,400 EXP, but no potions.

Diplomatic pacification[]

It is possible for Gorion's Ward to subdue the troll peacefully based on class:

  • Fighter, Barbarian, or Blackguard: Threaten to tear the troll apart.
  • Mage (any); Confuse the troll by talking about time and chronology
  • Bard: Sing the troll to sleep

If Gorion's Ward is an elf, then this will always fail. Succeeding at this route the same rewards as the violent pacification.

Note[]

As described on Sindret's page, it is ill-advised to talk to her whilst Viconia DeVir or Baeloth Barrityl is both in the party and within Sindret's visual range. She will brush it off the first time, if the player chooses the right options, but if they insist on speaking to a militant anti-drow fanatic with a drow close to hand, she will turn hostile, causing the rest of the camp to do the same. Speaking with the troll will reveal that the troll's name is Ulori, and she is female.
