Baldur's Gate Wiki

The Tiefling (Thief) is encountered in the Watcher's Keep Teleport Maze when traveling through a portal to the Watcher's Keep – Tieflings (AR3005) area.

There are many ways of dealing with such as you.

This Tiefling is a Thief with an assassin kit that will empower its Assassination ability when an enemy is detected, and then attempt to either attempt a Hide in Shadows (100% skill) or use a Potion of Invisibility to achieve hidden status and then move forward and attack the nearest opponent.

This may achieve a Backstab attack with a X6 multiplier.

The Thief may also apply its Avoid Death ability during battle as well.

The creature wields a Short Sword +2 in the main hand, and a Dagger +2 in the offhand, although its THAC0 penalty for "dual-wielding" is a factor and accounted for in the InfoBox, as well as its racial Tiefling THAC0 modifier.

If the Tiefling is wounded to 50% of its hit points, it will consume a Potion of Superior Healing.

This creature is scripted to use its Detect Illusion ability, but it will probably be defeated and dead well before it ever gets to that script timer to even try.

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod revises this creature slightly with a new AI script for improved tactical function.

The Assassin's XP level is raised to 24. A further Backstab damage +2 modifier is added, so as an Assassin kit it receives a higher backstab damage modifier.

The assassin uses potions of invisibility to attain hidden status.

SCS changes the creatures weapon proficiencies in Short Sword to 1 pip, and 1 pip in single weapon fighting style, which is correct by rule for a Thief/assassin.

SCS also goes with a single Short Sword +2 and removes the off-hand dagger use. SCS uses the same Assassination and Avoid Death abilities.

With the Rogue Rebalancing mod installed (with or without SCS) then this assassin is scripted to use that mod's revised assassin abilities, to include "Assassin Poison" and "Death Attack".
