The Kneecapper +1, also named War Hammer +1, +4 vs. giant humanoids, is a dwarven hammer specialized in taking down tall humanoids like ogres, half-ogres, ogrillons, elementals, djinns, efreetis, giants or golems.

A more specific list of giant humanoids can be found here. Whether a specific creature is a giant humanoid can be seen in its dedicated wiki article's infobox, listed as its Type.

Description[]

General[]

A massive, unwieldy warhammer inscribed with dwarven runes.

Identified[]

The Kneecapper, or "The Capper" as it is affectionately known in dwarven circles, is rumored to have been forged by Clangeddin himself. He gave it to a small clan of homeless dwarves that they might carve a place for themselves amongst the giants and ogres in their area. The hammer has been passed from hero to hero, occasionally finding its way into non-dwarven hands.

Gameplay[]

  • In Enhanced Edition, the hammer's enchantment value bumps up to 4 against giant humanoids, but is otherwise 1. So for example it can hit Iron Golems, which require at least +3 weapons.
  • In the original edition of Baldur's Gate I, it's always a magical weapon with enchantment 0, which is equivalent to a +1 weapon.
  • In the original edition of Baldur's Gate II, it's always a +4 weapon.
  • Creatures with "golem" in their name are not giant humanoids in Baldur's Gate I, except for the Flesh Golems in Black Alaric's Cave plus two others in the second subterranean level of Durlag's Tower. In Baldur's Gate II, all golems are correctly classified.
  • Ashideena and the Kneecapper are the strongest war hammers available in the first opus, with Ashideena taking the lead when not fighting giant humanoids.
