The Firewine Ruins is a quest that you get from Gandolar Luckyfoot, a halfling who is encountered near the southern entrance to the halfling village in the Gullykin area. Although it's far from obvious from the quest entries in your Journal, the quest goal is to kill the Ogre Mage that is located in the Firewine Ruins, and then report back to Gandolar.
A farmer's tale, loosely relating to this quest, can be heard much earlier by speaking to farmers in, for example, Beregost, and will give a first journal entry, as long as the quest isn't solved:
“ | According to a farmer we talked with, the Firewine Bridge ruin hides a lot of treasure. | ” |
Entering the ruins[]
Entering the Firewine Ruins via the concealed door in the basement of Jenkal's home in Gullykin is the quickest way to encounter the Ogre Mage, as it is located in a small room that the party transitions into from the basement.
- A possible tactic for weaker parties: immediately run back up the stairs and the Ogre Mage will follow. Fight it in the basement as this will potentially avoid being overwhelmed by the Ogre Mage, along with Lendarn, three Ogrillons, two Kobolds and up to five Kobold Commandos that are located within the narrow passages of the ruins just beyond the small room.
- If you want to avoid having Lendarn and the other enemies joining the fight, you can enter the Firewine Ruins via the secret entrance in the Gullykin temple basement or enter the ruins via the ground entrance in the Firewine Bridge area and tackle them first. But beware that if a party member stumbles into the Ogre Mage's sight, it will join the battle, so try to draw Lendarn and the other monsters farther into the ruins and them take them on.
Once you've dispatched the Ogre Mage go back and talk with Gandolar Luckyfoot on the way out of town. He will reward you with 250 and a thanks for making the region safer. If you also desire to kill Lendarn, go back through the concealed door and continue exploring the area. You should be able to get Lendarn's attention without even entering the passage where he is located (the above mentioned tactic is possible to perform with him too, although you will probably have gotten the attention of a couple of the kobolds and ogrillons as well, but they will not pursue up the stairsoriginal BG only).

Notes[]
Firewine Bridge and Gullykin[]
The Firewine Ruins comes with a sort of "companion quest," Firewine Bridge and Gullykin. It is (very) unclear why this isn't just another journal entry among those for The Firewine Ruins. It is a "quest" with no goals and no reward that simply disappears from your journal when The Firewine Ruins is completed.
