Tellan Altru'ar, the self-appointed shining light of Tethyr,[1] is – as are many others – trapped on the Ice Island in Tales of the Sword Coast.
After a short dialogue, Tellan usually attacks the party, unless Gorion's Ward asks him for assistance in the battles to come and offers to take him with them when they leave this place.
Gameplay[]
- Tellan wears an undroppable bracer that gives him protection from normal missiles for one hour every time the area is loaded.
- Actually it is not possible to take him with you when teleporting from the island:
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast (1999)
This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast campaign. In the original Tales of the Sword Coast, he simply will stay where you left the area. (There's a dialogue option with Shandalar after returning: "[…] There are people still trapped on that island.")
Baldur's Gate:
Enhanced Edition (2012)
This icon indicates content from the Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition campaign. The Enhanced Edition expands Tellan's dialogue by demanding to give him Shandalar's Cloak – if talked to after having obtained it – and then turning hostile.
- Also he won't assist the party in any fight – he just haphazardly follows Gorion's Ward, and it isn't always easy to keep him in your line of sight in those narrow and contorted paths. Although if he does see an enemy he will attack with Darts.
Trivia[]
- A single level 5 spell, Cloudkill, is written in Tellan's spellbook though it is not memorized.
- Two other spells, Skull Trap and Horror, are also in his spellbook and are memorized but the spells aren't included in his race script.
- He also carries the following items that are without assigned inventory slots and thus are not droppable:
- Leather Armor +1
- The Grave Binder +2
- Sling +1 (though he clearly speaks of his darts)
- Bullet +2 (×10)
- Bullet +1 (×10)
In Tales of the Sword Coast:
- The creature file has his race as human though the animation is that of a gnome thief.
- His allegiance is set as enemy.

Bugs[]
- Though Tellan is encountered in this prison where obviously only mages on some teleport trip get trapped, and he definitely has learned and is able to cast spells, he is a thief (although he is given a mage race script which is what allows him to cast spells).
