The wizard spell Sunfire creates an explosive burst of flame around the caster.
Description[]
| “ | Sunfire A Sunfire is like a Fireball: An explosive burst of flame, which detonates with a low roar and delivers damage proportional to the level of the wizard who cast it: 1d6 points of damage for each level of experience of the spellcaster (up to a maximum of 15d6). The wizard gestures with his hand and the entire area around him erupts in flames, striking all except for the caster. Creatures failing their Saving Throws each suffer full damage from the blast. Those who roll successful Saving Throws manage to dodge, fall flat, or roll aside, each receiving half. |

Gameplay[]
The caster casts this spell, and it automatically targets self.
After the spell is finished, a fireball projectile explodes on the caster's sprite, exposing all creatures but the caster in a 15-feet radius to variable Fire damage.
Exposed creatures are allowed a Saving throw versus Spell to receive half the damage.
In the Enhanced Edition, the Sunfire spell makes the caster immune to the damaging part of the spell just long enough to be unaffected by it. In the original edition, the caster's Fire resistance is set to 100% for 3 seconds instead.
In the Enhanced Edition, this spell's damage can be blocked by Magic resistance.
It can also be negated by a Spell Immunity: Evocation, and the Cloak of Mirroring.
The internal Power level of the spell is 5, so a Lich or a Rakshasa will be immune to the spell as well.
Notes[]
- In Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Sunfire bypasses MR, thus the spell is very useful against resistant enemies like the drow.
- The Suncatcher has this as a charge ability.

Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeon and Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset has no Wizard spell titled or equivalent to Sunfire. There is a 4th level Wizard spell called Sunburst, but that spell is a burst of light, especially effective towards undead, but it has no fire component.
