As Gorion's Ward explores the Underground River, they will discover Strunk experimenting in summoning and binding three Water Elementals to strengthen the cause of the Shining Crusade on the northern shore of the river in the central-west portion of the map, below the guards' camp guarding the door to the Warrens and east of the Ettin Ghost.

If Gorion's Ward speaks to Strunk, he will explain what he is doing. If the party attempts to leave while not wearing a Crusader Uniform, Strunk will decide to "test" his new slaves by ordering them to attack the party. There are also many conversation choices that will lead to a fight. Strunk himself is worth 5,000 XP and drops Elements' Fury and each of his water elementals is also worth 5,000 XP. If any Crusader patrols are within view of the fight, they will turn the entire area hostile.

A few rounds after Strunk dies, a Nereid will appear, having been seeking Strunk with the intent of slaying him for enslaving her elemental companions. If the player has not killed any of the water elementals, she will thank them for their mercy; the elementals will return to the Elemental Plane of Water and the nereid will reward the party with 12,000 XP and the Purification Stone. On the other hand, if the player has killed even one water elemental before she arrives, she will attack them in a rage; upon her death, she grants the party 5,000 XP and drops the Purification Stone.

Note: If the elementals, for example, are entangled in the web at the time their existence timer expires after Strunk's death, then they disappear only after the end of the web. Thus, it seems possible to wait for the Nereid to appear, get a reward for the fact that all the elementals are intact, then she will disappear, and if at that moment the elemental is still held by the web, it can be killed and get experience for this.
