- This page is about the wizard spell that can modify the connected ability score, Strength. For the ability with a similar functionality, exclusive to Mazzy, see Strength (ability).
Strength changes the target character's strength score, the amount by which is dependent on the character's score before the spell was cast.
Description[]
“ | Strength Application of this spell increases the Strength of the character to 18 and then adds 50% bonus on top of this. The character receives any Strength bonuses appropriate. If a character has between 18/50 and 18/00 Strength, then his Strength will just be set to 18/00. If a character has a Strength between 18/01 and 18/50, then his Strength will become 18/50 + original percentage. For example, if the character has a Strength of 18/25, this spell will increase his Strength to 18/75. If his Strength is less than 18, then it will just become 18/50. However, this spell will actually lower a character's Strength if it is already 19 or more. |

Gameplay[]
The caster directs this spell at a single creature target. In the Enhanced Edition there is a 20-foot range for the spell, with a long casting time of 9.
If a player character has this spell cast upon them, they will display a portrait icon (No. 21) titled "Strength" for the duration of the spell, or until it is removed.
This spell can be taken down by a successful Dispel Magic effect.
Any target (friendly, hostile, neutral) protected by a spell protection such as Minor Spell Deflection or Minor Globe of Invulnerability will not be affected by this spell.
This spell ignores the target's Magic resistance, so it can be used for example on a dragon to bring down their damage and THAC0 (but mind the long casting time).
If a Cleric's Strength of One is used on a creature before casting this spell, it'll make it so the character's Strength is set to 18/00, even if they started with no exceptional Strength bonus whatsoever. However, when the Strength of One buff has expired, the creature's Strength will be reduced to 18/50, assuming it started at 18 or lower.

Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition Strength (Wizard Spell) spell design differs from the way Bioware implemented it in the game.
In the tabletop game, casting this spell on a creature like a dragon or storm giant (to lower their strength) wouldn't work, and instead grant the creature +1 to attack and damage rolls instead.
