The Staff of Striking (Staff of Striking +3 in-game) is a quarterstaff with 25 charges when fully charged, and will destroy itself when there are no charges left. As with all items with a fixed number of charges, it is possible to recharge this weapon. Simply sell it to a store and then buy it back.
If you look at the statistics of the weapon, it has almost the same as a Quarterstaff +3, but has a damage bonus of +9, which is six points higher.
In Tales of the Sword Coast, it is the most powerful staff and probably the strongest blunt weapon available. It's also in a different proficiency compared to other games.
In Baldur's Gate II, the Staff of the Ram is a more powerful staff, but the Staff of Striking is considerably easier to obtain very early in the game. Backstabbing characters (i.e. most thieves and stalkers) should purchase it as soon as possible, as it will likely be their strongest backstabbing weapon for much of the game.
Description[]
“ | Staffs of Striking are made by the Gold Elves of Drelagara on Evermeet. The staffs have a life of their own and jump to attack in their bearer's hand. The elven craftsmen rarely sell them to other races but these powerful melee weapons do surface occasionally in Faerun. However, each attack made with the staff uses a charge, hence causing it to consume itself when no charges remain. | ” |
