Staff of Fire is an enchanted Quarterstaff +2 The weapon deals 1d6 +2 points of crushing damage, has -2 THACO bonus, it weighs 3 lbs and it has a speed factor of 2. The staff can kill a Fire Elemental instantly with any melee hit, unless a save vs. death is made. The instant death effect bypasses Magic Resistance.

Description[]

Staff of Fire

This staff bears an ancient rune that may link it to the wizards of faraway Halruaa, but it is impossible to be certain. Drawing from the Plane of Fire, it can erupt in a Fire Shield that damages attackers, it can summon a Fire Elemental under the control of the wielder, and it can potentially draw all the energy from any fire elemental that it hits, destroying them instantly. Some abilities are limited with charges however.

Gameplay[]

By expending a charge, the wielder may summon an 8-hit die Lesser Fire Elemental for 1-hour (The creature summoned is SUMELFIR.CRE). The summoned creature spawning has a range of 20 feet. The staff has a maximum of 30 charges for this function.

The wielder may also use a charge to cast a Fireshield (Red) spell upon themselves. The spell is the same as the Wizard Spell (SPWI418). The spell is implemented at caster level 10, regardless of the wielder's actual experience level, and should have a duration of 13 rounds. The staff has a maximum of 30 charges for this function.

Once the charges in the staff are consumed, the staff will not be destroyed, but the charged abilities are disabled. The Staff can be sold to a merchant, recharged like a wand, and then purchased (or stolen if applicable) to recharge it.

One can be found in the Flame room inside The Planar Sphere, with initial charges at 20 for each function.

Bugs[]

As of BG2EE 2.6, The respective Staves of Air/Earth/Fire could charm their respective elementals, however, the sound that accompanied the charm would play on all targets even if they weren't subject to the charm itself. This is identified for correction in the pending Enhanced Edition Fix Pack (EEFP). Ref: (staf15.itm, staf16.itm, staf17.itm)
