The Staff of Earth is an enchanted Quarterstaff +2. It can inflict 1d6 +2 points of crushing damage and has THAC0 bonus of -2. It weighs 3 lbs and has a speed factor of 2. A successful hit with the weapon can also slay any Earth elemental that fails to save vs. Spell with the instant death effect bypassing Magic Resistance. And it has two rechargeable abilities: It can be used to summon a Lesser Earth Elemental and to revert a Petrified status effect.

Description[]

Linked to the Plane of Earth, this staff may have been fashioned by an ancient druidic sect. It can summon an Earth Elemental, though it also has the potential to slay such creatures in a single blow, possibly hinting at how difficult it is to control them. It can also free a person from the earth by casting Stone to Flesh. Some abilities are limited by charges.

Gameplay[]

By expending a charge, the wielder may summon an 8-hit die Lesser Earth Elemental (SUMELEAR.cre) for one hour. The summoned creature will attack any enemy within a range of 20 feet. The staff has a maximum of 30 charges for this function.

The wielder may also use a charge to produce a Stone to Flesh effect that reverts the petrification of a creature. This has a touch range. The revert process is implemented by the staff using an Opcode 43 Cure Stone to Flesh, along with some graphic animation and sound effects. The staff has a maximum of 30 charges for this function.

Once the charges in the staff are consumed, the staff will not be destroyed, but the charged abilities are disabled. The staff can be sold to a merchant, where it will recharge like a wand, and then purchased (or stolen if applicable) to use its abilities again.

It can be bought exclusively from the Drow weapons merchant in the Ust Natha Bazaar.

Bugs[]

As of BG2EE 2.6, The respective Staves of Air/Earth/Fire could charm their respective elementals, however, the sound that accompanied the charm would play on all targets even if they weren't subject to the charm itself. This is identified for correction in the pending Enhanced Edition Fix Pack (EEFP). Ref: (staf15.itm, staf16.itm, staf17.itm)
