Spirit Warrior is a ghostly appearing humanoid male fighter creature representing an "Eternal Warrior" that has been infused with part of the consciousness and essence of Gorion's Ward.
This scenario can take place in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition or Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
“ | You feel a small part of your own life force being drawn through space and time, then landing with an abrupt thump into a body that is not your own. | ” |
Gameplay[]
When the party interacts with The Spirit Altar while in possession of the Warrior's Skull, this initiates a cutscene, and the party is transported to the beginning room of a new location map - the Watcher's Keep – Adventure Level (Spirit Warrior) area.
The party can't be accessed or controlled by the player, and Gorion's Ward has been replaced by the Spirit Warrior creature outlined in the InfoBox (the real main character remains by the Spirit Altar, inaccessible and uncontrollable).
This scenario begins the process to try and successfully conquer the challenge ahead, in order to win the Spirit Key.
During this adventure, the warrior and the main character are in part, the same being. All movement, decisions and information presented during the adventure to come are provided through dialogue only.
Actions and orders from dialogue selection will be shown during cutscenes and animation - fighting and movement are not directly controlled by the player.
The warrior can die during this adventure due to certain decisions, as well as some random dice rolls during combat - the Spirit Warrior's stats, armor class, THAC0 and gear are all used to calculate combat results.
There is little the player can do to change this, except for choices made during the scenario - if the spirit warrior dies, then so does Gorion's Ward, and it is game over.
Walkthrough[]
It isn't necessary to actually use a "walkthrough" for this adventure.
Just read the text in the dialogue box, keep track of the spirit warrior's location, and make choices of where to move towards and actions taken in each chamber visited.
The goal here is to explore the entire map, overcome any challenges presented, perhaps collect some items to aid in the adventure, and eventually make it to the last room in the dungeon to face the final foe.
Regardless of what choices are made, there is some random dice probabilities occurring that might lead to failure - it isn't preordained or decided ahead of time.
Provided below is a streamlined "optimal" path one can take, as well as information provided that a player could not have known ahead of normal gameplay - thus this is a "Spoiler".
Use the information hidden under the Solve text only if you wish to be told ahead of natural gameplay what to do:
The optimal path and actions to solve the challenge is:
- First, go east and attack the goblin.
- Go east again and when you approach the chest, a skeleton will attack you. Defeat the skeleton and take the Wand of Missiles from the chest.
- Go north and attack the war dog. Search the room to find a key and a potion which will restore some of your HPs.
- Go west and search the room to find a scroll with a picture of a gibberling on it.
- Go west again. Ignore the fountain and go north. Defeat the ghost and then take the magical helm from the chest.
- Now go east twice and approach the desk. Inside the desk, you will find a pair of bracers.
- Go north and use the scroll with the picture of a gibberling on it to frighten away the gibberling.
- Go west and use the key to open the chest. Inside you will find a potion which will heal you greatly.
- Pass through the arch and enter the crypt. Use the Wand of Missiles on the mummy and then attack it. Once you have defeated the mummy, your spirit will return to its body, and you will find the Spirit Key in your possession.
If the adventure challenge is completed successfully, the party and Gorion's Ward are returned next to the Spirit Altar, the Spirit Key will be provided, and a quest journal entry and experience point reward will be bestowed.
The party may now move about and explore as desired.
