Spirit Fire is a 4th level priest spell usable only by the shaman - who automatically receive this spell and do not have to select it on level-ups.

Description[]

As the Shaman casts this spell, energies gather together from the spirit world and form a pale blue sphere. The Shaman can throw the sphere so that it explodes into a burst of ghostly, azure flames, which deliver 1d4 points of magic damage per level of the Shaman (up to a maximum of 10d4). There is also a 33% chance that every enemy within the area of effect will be afflicted by the Doom spell (-2 penalty to Saving Throws and attack rolls for 1 turn). A successful Save vs. Spell halves the damage and negates the Doom effect. Spirits, fey creatures, elementals, and spectral undead take double damage.

Gameplay[]

The caster selects a target location on the area map to aim the blue sphere toward, up to 40 feet distance.

When cast, a projectile flies at the target point and rapidly bursts and fills a 15-foot radius circle with the spell's effects, centered on that point.

All creatures in the area of effect are exposed to Magical damage, which varies according to the caster's level - a Saving throw versus Spell will half the damage.

Additionally, there is a 33% probability of a sub-spell being applied on every creature in the AoE - which is a modified Doom spell. If the saving throw versus spell is successful, it negates the effects.

This spell can be blocked by Magic resistance, Spell Immunity: Conjuration, Globe of Invulnerability, and the Cloak of Mirroring.

The Doom effect will not stack with repeated castings of Spirit Fire, nor with the standalone Doom spell. It will stack with other roll penalties, such as Greater Malison and Unholy Blight.

Six specific Race and one Class creatures, including various spirits, fey creatures, elementals, and spectral undead take double damage. This is a non-exhaustive list of enemies this spell works against:

Noteworthy, however, is the fact that the Spectral Harpists are not considered "spectral undead", despite the fact they are classified as undead creatures and have "spectral" in their name.
