When a wizard casts Spell Thrust at a single target, all spell protections of 5th level and lower are removed from the creature.
Description[]
“ | Spell Thrust When this spell is cast at a target creature, it will dispel all of the spell protections of 5th level and lower. This includes the following spells: Minor Spell Deflection, Minor Globe of Invulnerability, Spell Immunity, and Minor Spell Turning, the target's Magic Resistance, if any, does not affect this spell. |
” |
Gameplay[]
This spell is the most basic and lowest potency spell protection remover in the game.
When the spell is cast on a target, a spell removal animation graphic is played over the target, and a text message is displayed on the combat log reading: "Spell Protections Removed". This text appears even if the target had no spell protections present, or even if the spell protection present was too high level to be removed. This message can therefore be considered misleading to the player.
All eligible spell protections as described are removed with a Spell Thrust. For instance, an enemy mage protected by Spell Immunity, Minor Spell Deflection and Minor Spell Turning would have all of those removed by a single application of Spell Thrust.
A Spell Shield will block this spell, and then the shield will be consumed.
A Globe of Invulnerability will make Spell Thrust "Spell ineffective" - this means that even if the target has one or more spell protections present of the 5th level or lower, it won't be able to function and is essentially negated by the globe.
Spell Immunity: Abjuration will not block this spell, even though Spell Thrust is an abjuration school spell.
A Spell Thrust may be cast on a target who is invisible, sanctuaried or hidden.
Spell Thrust will bypass an illusionary protection such as Reflected Image or Mirror Image, even though the internal spell effects are not flagged to do so.
Casting a Spell Thrust on a neutral creature will turn them hostile, and perhaps others in the same vicinity.
Spell protections removed by Spell Thrust[]
- Magic Resistance (spell)
- Minor Spell Deflection
- Minor Globe of Invulnerability
- Spell Immunity
- Minor Spell Turning
- Spell Shield
Example: An enemy mage is protected by Spell Trap, Spell Turning, Minor Spell Deflection, and Spell Immunity is truck by a Spell Thrust. Only the Minor Spell Deflection and Spell immunity spells will both be removed simultaneously. Spell Thrust can't touch the other two because they are above level 5 spell power level.

Mod content[]

Spell Revisions mod has changed this arcane spell, revising its effects, and utility. See below for description:
Spell Thrust
Level: 3
School: Abjuration
Range: Long
Duration: Instant
Casting Time: 3
Area of Effect: 15’ radius
Saving Throw: None
When this spell is cast, it will dispel one spell protection of 5th level or lower on all enemies within the area of effect. This will always dispel the highest level of spell protection on a target first. If a target has two or more protections tied for the highest level, the choice will be random. Magic resistance does not affect this spell.
The spell protections dispelled by Spell Thrust are: Minor Spell Deflection, Non-Detection, Minor Globe of Invulnerability, Spell Deflection, Dispelling Screen and Spell Shield.
With the Sword Coast Stratagems mod Spell Thrust can't target invisible or hidden creatures without first exposing or revealing the target creature. With the SR mod that doesn't come into play as the SR version is an AoE spell.
