Solaufein is a male drow located in Ust Natha part of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn saga. He is involved in several quests in connection with Chapter 5's main plot of escaping the Underdark. He has a complicated relationship with Phaere.

Gameplay[]
Solaufein is the party's point of contact when entering Ust Natha, as ordered by a Handmaiden of Lolth. The party is to report to him, found nearby the Male Fighters' Society.
At a specific point in the saga, Phaere will give the party an order to kill Solaufein. This does not have to be carried out, and he can instead be part of a counter plot to provide his cloak to convince Phaere as evidence of his death.
If he is not killed, he will later furnish the party a set of Fake Dragon Eggs which are useful in deceiving Phaere and escaping Ust Natha without any combat at all, and most importantly, recovering Adalon's Dragon Eggs intact, which is the actual reason the party entered Ust Natha in the first place.
It is unlikely that Solaufein will be in any meaningful combat with the party. Harming him before a certain point in the saga will turn the entire drow city hostile and scrap all remaining quest options, a complete disaster for the player's progress in Chapter 5.

Bugs[]
As of BG2EE 2.6, If you spare Solaufein, depending on the PC's replies Solaufein can hand over his cloak even though you never asked for it. He also misses setting some journal entries. This is identified for correction in the pending Enhanced Edition Fix Pack (EEFP). Ref: (udsola01.dlg)

After finishing the Ust Natha quests, Weimer's classic companion mod provides an option to let him join the party. He can romance or be friends with any player character.
If playing the Eilistraee's Song mod, then Solaufein (if not killed earlier) will make another appearance in the Cave Between Underdark and Exit from Underdark. The party will get a Journal Entry and a location on the World Map to visit.
