The Solar are the most powerful Celestials. The closest beings to the gods themselves, creatures of immense powers, their presence can make even the most terrible demons tremble in fear.
In the angelic power scale, they are the strongest, followed by the Planetars, and then the Devas. Solars cannot be summoned by the party - although in the PnP game they might be made available via the Gate spell.
Known as Angels in 1st Edition ADND, the Solar is one of seven varieties of Aasimon in the Advanced D&D 2nd Edition ruleset, of which this game is mostly sourced from.
One of them is a recurring character in the DLC Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
A Solar that has fallen and been corrupted and aligned with evil is known as a "Fallen Solar", or Dark Angel. These beings are rare compared to other Solars.
One of the Archdevils and Lords of the Nine Hells under Asmodeus is a former Solar, named Zariel, the Archduchess of Avernus.
