A Smoke Mephit is an extra-planar "outsider" (i.e., linked to various Elemental, Quasi-Elemental and Outer planes of existence). These creatures are similar to Imps and are found in a number of areas during the Baldur's Gate II games.
Gameplay[]
A Smoke Mephit will normally cast an invisibility spell on self when an opponent is detected. The spell is instantly cast. The mephit can attack twice per round in melee for 1d2 (slashing) damage. It also has the innate Sooty Ball ability.
The mephit will initiate the Sooty Ball attack right after it turns invisible, as long as there is a detected opponent in range. The ability launches a bullet projectile at a target in range and it deals 1d4 (crushing) damage. A Blindness effect will be applied lasting 10 seconds as well. The crushing attack can be blocked by magic resistance and is a level 2 spell power effect, so that can be stopped by an appropriate spell level protection such as Minor Globe of Invulnerability or Minor Spell Deflection. The Blindness effect has no saving throw, but won't bypass magic resistance. It also has a level 2 spell power.
The Smoke Mephit has no magic, or physical damage resistance.
The mephit can regenerate 1 hit point every round.
The InfoBox summarizes the creature's special abilities and immunities to certain status effects. The creature has an unlimited use of invisibility spells and Sooty ball attacks, with a timed interval of delayed use being the only restriction.
