The Silver Sword +3 is an enchanted two-handed sword.
Description[]
“ | This vorpal Silver Sword radiates a dark aura when you examine it, and the blade is so finely sharpened it could likely sever a head in a single blow. | ” |
Aquisition[]
This sword is available in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. It is gained by bringing the Silver Blade, Silver Hilt and paying 7500 gold to the master smith Cromwell located in his home/workshop in the Athkatla Docks.
You obtain the Silver Blade from Saemon Havarian in return for helping him steal a new ship as part of the Leaving the island side quest. It may also be obtained from a successful pickpocketing attempt.
With the blade in the party's possession, upon returning to Athkatla in Chapter 6 and go to one of the major locations in the city (Waukeen's Promenade is most likely), an encounter is triggered with githyanki named Kruin. He demands that you surrender the Silver Blade. This blade is considered sacred by the githyanki.
You can either give it to him or decide to refuse, leading to a fight with he and his accompanying githyanki warriors. The Silver Hilt can be taken from Kruin's corpse. Now in possession of both components, if the party wishes they may visit Cromwell to commission the reforging of the two pieces into the Silver Sword.
Gameplay[]
This two-handed sword is flagged as silver and also a +3 enchanted item. It has a relatively slow weapon speed factor, like most blades of this size.
On any successful hit upon a target, it inflicts 1d10 +3 Slashing damage damage. There is a 25% probability that the target creature is exposed to a vorpal effect - see the Kill target status effect for more details. A Saving throw vs. Death, with a -2 penalty can negate the instant death effect. If the creature fails the save, and isn't immune to the effect, then a string reference and combat log message displays "Vorpal Hit". Additionally, the death type inflicted is the "Chunked" death type, which renders the target into bits and pieces - precluding resurrection.
Note[]
This item is flagged as a "critical item" and is unsellable.
