| “ | Welcome to my humble establishment.[2] | ” |
This General Store is located in Southeast Baldur's Gate next to Nemphre's Home. Marked as Shop on the map, the store has its doors open all day and night and is one of two general storess in the district, the other being the Well-Adjusted Al's General Store which is located in the southern area of the district.
In the original Baldur's Gate, this store and three other general stores in the city of Baldur's Gate have a shared cooperative and they all sell the same potions from the same stock (see bugs). The store now offers some standard armor and weapons in the Enhanced Edition and no longer sells potions.
Layout[]
The shop is a single-floor building with a separate ancillary room, like several other stores on the Sword Coast. Besides some shelves, many empty crates and barrels are lined up along the walls or placed in the corners. The storekeep stays behind his counter, opposite a single front door.
The small store is visited frequently by commoners from 5:30 in the morning to 9:30 in the evening, with good chances to hear some rumors between eight in the morning and seven in the evening. When all have left, the storekeep still has an eye on his unlocked shelves that are full of wares, though taking the bullets and the darts from the bag in the side room might go unnoticed.
Thievery, if not done by somebody invisible or by a shadowdancer using their abilities, provokes any witness to alert a Flaming Fist Enforcer and one of his comrades to arrest the alleged thieves.[3]
Loot:[]
- Potion of Fire Breath and a Potion of Healing – large shelf in northwestern corner
- Battle Axe and 23
– large shelf near door - Morning Star – shelf next to counter
- Bullet (×20), Dart (×20) – bag in side room
Services[]
The shop offers a wide range of standard gear with nothing specific of note. Accessories and jewelry can be sold for average rates; see below for a detailed list of what can be divested at a depreciation rate of only five percent. All magical items can be identified for the usual rate of one hundred
.
Rogues can try to steal from the shop, with a skill of ten usually being sufficient; if that fails, a Flaming Fist Enforcer and two 2 of his comrades will try to arrest the thief and the other members of the party.[4]

Notes[]
Baldur's Gate (1998)
Content from the original Baldur's Gate main campaign The store file,(STO1320), is already present in the original Baldur's Gate code but isn't referenced by any merchant in that game; instead, this general store shares its stock with the Potion Shop (see below).- This original version of the store had a stock that's identical to others in the city and included five large shields +1. When eventually opening doors in the Enhanced Edition, these shields are replaced by five non-enchanted ones. Also the amount of available throwing axes is now a set amount instead of an infinite amount.
Bugs[]
- Due to the Potion Shop's store file
(STO1115)being referenced in the dialogue of storekeeps from three other stores, the Potion Shop's stock is shared between all four of them; "shared stock" meaning, what is bought at one of the four stores cannot be bought anymore at the other three and what is sold at any of them can be found in the others' stock. Specifically, these stores are the general store next to the Merchants' League Estate in Southwest Baldur's Gate, Well-Adjusted Al's General Store, and this shop.
