Shillelagh is a 1st level priest spell. It allows the caster to create a magical club for use in combat.

Description[]

Baldur's Gate / Enhanced Editions[]

This spell enables the caster to create a magical cudgel that has a +1 bonus to its attack roll and inflicts 2d4 points of damage on opponents.

Shadows of Amn[]

This spell enables the caster to create a magical cudgel that has a +3 bonus to its attack roll and inflicts 1d6+1 points of damage on opponents.

Gameplay[]

  • The shillelagh deals crushing damage and has a speed factor of 4.  It does not have a proficiency class, meaning it does not gain any benefits nor does it impose penalties based on proficiency.
  • Like all spell-created weapons, if a character dual-wields while the shillelagh is active, their off-hand weapon will not suffer any off-hand THAC0 penalty.
  • The shillelagh counts as a magical weapon, but does not have an enchantment value; therefore, its behavior against enemies immune to normal weapons is inconsistent, though in the original Baldur's Gate II only.
    • It will hit enemies whose immunity is coded to check for whether a weapon is magical/non-magical, such as liches.

Spell Revisions mod has changed this divine spell, revising its effects, casting time, duration and description. See below:

Shillelagh
Level: 1
School: Alteration
Sphere: Combat, Plant
Range: Personal
Duration: 2 turns
Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: None

This spell enables the caster to create a magical cudgel. The shillelagh inflicts 2d4+1 points of damage on a successful hit and causes tendrils to wrap around and hold the victim in place for one round unless a save vs. breath is made. The caster wields the shillelagh as if proficient with the weapon, at his normal THAC0. At level 1, it functions as a magical weapon with an enchantment bonus of +1. For every other four experience levels of the spellcaster, this bonus increases by one, up to a total of +3 enchantment level, +3 to attack rolls, and +3 to damage for a 9th-level caster. The shillelagh can be used only by the caster, and remains in his hand for the duration of the spell or until dispelled.

Note: Spell not available to Cleric/Paladin.
