Disambiguation icon Not to be confused with Shangalar.

While I have enjoyed putting your evil self firmly in your evil place, I fear I must leave your carcass only half-judged! I am certain I left the fireplace fully stoked and must return later! I'll not burn my roast for the likes of you!

— Some dialog of Shandalar that was cut from the game

Shandalar is an incredibly powerful mage who lives in a skyship just east of Ulgoth's Beard. He will ask you to retrieve his cloak from a magical ice prison. You can agree, in which you will immediately be teleported to Ice Island with a wardstone that will take you back to Shandalar once you have recovered the cloak. However, if you've killed Shandalar's daughters in Oberan's Estate in Baldur's Gate or if your reputation is only five or lower, you will be sent without choice.

Gameplay[]

  • Shandalar's enormous saves, AC, physical and elemental resistances, and powerful magic make him extremely difficult to defeat in direct combat. One method that can work is to use Wand of Paralyzation on him preemptively; the wand's save penalty means this has a meaningful chance of succeeding. Once stunned in this manner, he can be killed using physical attacks with little further difficulty.
  • If you do choose to confront Shandalar, this is his spell progression:
