Baldur's Gate Wiki

The Sewage Golem is found at rest in the storage room on the first floor of Irenicus' Dungeon. It is in possession of the Sewage Golem Key which will open all three of the warded doors that lead to the sewage room.

The golem has limited "programming", and will not attack the party or become hostile. Likewise, it cannot be destroyed by hit point loss (which will never fall below 1). At this stage of the saga, the party is unlikely able to do anything to actually slay the big dumb automaton. So, don't waste too much time trying to figure out how to eke out some extra experience points.

Note: A failed pick pocket attempt will not lead to the golem turning hostile. Also, any character that can wield the Sword of Chaos can use the Sewage Golem for infinite healing: Equip the Sword of Chaos and attack the Sewage Golem. Each hit will heal 1 hit point. This works even though the Sewage Golem does not take any damage from the Sword because of its 100% slashing resistance.

The Sewage Room[]

There are two different methods that can be carried out in order to obtain access to the sewage room.

  • 1 - The golem can be pick pocketed for the key. Imoen is an always available option for this and the golem will never turn hostile from a failed attempt, but this does cause you to lose out on the XP from option 2.
  • 2 - Dialogue with the creature will result in the knowledge that an Activation Stone is required to allow the golem to receive instructions and perform its duties which include opening the doors to the sewage room while cleaning the sewers and feeding the guardian. When the stone is used to activate the golem, it will disappear from your inventory and the party receives 3000 XP.

Once the golem finishes performing its duties, it will return to the storage room.
