The Sewage Golem is found at rest in the storage room on the first floor of Irenicus' Dungeon.
Gameplay[]
This dormant golem won't initiate any action, but if a PC speaks to it, the golem will become aware and open dialogue, starting with:
- "Master? Is it you? You have given me no eyes, and I cannot see you..."
The PC may converse in limited fashion with the construct, and ask any questions allowed - in the end the Ward's Journal will update with:
- Journal entry: Get the golem to open the dungeon doors
- It appears the sewage golem will open the doors in the dungeon if I find an activation stone... it is on a table near someone named Rielev.
If for some reason the party already has this activation stone, then there will be a dialogue option to give it to the golem and activate the janitorial/feeding duties.
Assuming this isn't the case then find the room where Rielev is trapped in a fluid filled tube, and the stone is found in a container within the chamber.
Return to the golem with the stone, and provide it to the automaton, upon which the golem can be instructed to go about his duties which in-turn will open three impassable doors leading to the master's "guardian".
Another update to the Ward's journal is recorded, resolving the shortest quest in the history of gaming:
- Journal entry: Get the golem to open the dungeon doors
- With the activation stone in my possession, the sewage golem has agreed to go about its duties... among which is the opening of the magically sealed doors in this level of the dungeon.
The party receives 3,000 XP for this action and the stone is removed from the party's possession.
At this point the golem walks out of the storage room on a predetermined path, opening various doors, and will eventually return to the starting point. It's possible to block the golem with party sprite/persons, so get out of the way if you want the golem to do its thing.
If for some reason the party speaks with the golem after it has already opened all the doors, it says:
- All my work is completed, master. The guardian feeds. There is naught else for me to do.
Notes[]
The golem has limited "programming" and will not attack the party or become hostile. Likewise, it cannot be destroyed by hit point loss (which will never fall below 1. At this stage of the saga, the party is unlikely able to do anything to actually slay the big dumb automaton. So, don't waste too much time trying to figure out how to eke out some extra experience points.
The golem is in possession of the Sewage Golem Key kept in its general backpack inventory slot, which can be easily pickpocketed by a rogue, or certain familiars. With the key in the party's possession, the three magically locked doors can be opened without the golem's help. If the party wants the extra XP, then get the mini quest registered and provide the activation stone.
