Set Special Snare is the special ability of the Bounty Hunter, which they innately know in addition to the standard thief traps.

Description[]

Set Special Snare

Set a trap in the chosen location when no hostile creatures are in sight. Traps grow more powerful with the character's level and can only be triggered by enemies.

  • 1st Level: Deals 3d8+5 missile damage and slows target for 5 rounds if a save vs. Spell with a -4 penalty is failed.
  • 11th Level: Deals 4d8+5 missile damage and holds target for 5 rounds if a save vs. Spell with a -1 penalty is failed.
  • 16th Level: Erects an Otiluke's Resilient Sphere around the target for 7 rounds if a save vs. Spell is failed.
  • 21st Level: Mazes the target.

Gameplay[]

The Bounty Hunter selects a spot to place the Special Snare, which can be "thrown" or placed within the character's visual range (a bit less than 30 feet). This ability is selected from the "Special Abilities" menu icon on the character's record, or by using the F12 key on PC keyboard interface.

Note: Traps can't be placed when the Bounty Hunter sees any enemy creatures.

Once the snare is placed, it remains there indefinitely until triggered by an enemy creature's proximity.

An enemy creature moving within about 16 feet of the snare will trigger the device and unleash the effects as described above. These effects are applied to any enemies in range when the snare is triggered.

Once the snare has activated, it is expended and disappears from the area map.

A successful Set Traps skill roll is required to successfully place a Set Special Snare. Failure can result either wasting the trap or being damaged/exposed to one's own trap, as if they were an enemy. This risk can be reduced by improving that skill up to 100%. Skill points higher than 100% are generally unnecessary.

There is a limit of 6 traps/snares allowed at one time per area map.

Note: As an "innate spell", multi and dual-classed characters "cast" Set Special Snare at the average of their class levels, rounded up.
