Seek Out and Investigate the Fallen Paladins is a side quest in the Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn campaign.
Acquisition[]
This quest can be started as early in chapter 2, but only if your reputation is, and remains, 10 or higher. Speak to Sir Ryan Trawl in the High Hall of the Radiant Heart in Athkatla's Temple District. He will ask you to investigate a group of Fallen Paladins and gain their trust. You must kill their leader and his followers. The group is under the command of one named Anarg.
If accepted, a journal entry registers the quest:
- Journal entry: Seek out and investigate the Fallen Paladins
- Ryan Trawl of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart has hired me to seek out and ally myself with a group called the Fallen Paladins. They are reported to be in the Bridge District and led by a former knight named Anarg. If I think the group is a threat, I am to do whatever is necessary and then report back to Sir Ryan.
Walkthrough[]
- In the east corner of the Athkatla Bridge behind Balthis Estate, you will see a group of the fallen paladins, led by Reynald de Chatillon, fighting a group of smugglers lead by Rindus.
- Aid the fallen paladins and Reynald will thank you, and ask you to retrieve Anarg's Cup from the High Hall of the Radiant Heart in order to gain their trust.
- Return to the High Hall and convince Ryan that you need Anarg's Cup to gain Anarg's trust. He will give you the cup reluctantly, asking that you return it when you have dealt with the fallen paladins.
- Return to Reynald with the cup (grants 10,250 XP). He will then summon Anarg, who already knows that you are working for the Radiant Heart.
- If you accept Anarg's offer to join the fallen paladins, you receive 7,250 XP, but he will tell Reynald you lie and are working for Ryan, at which point the whole group goes hostile and attacks.
- If you decline Anarg's offer you don't receive 7,250 XP, but Anarg's aggressive and treacherous response causes Reynold to decry the leader's actions and leave.
All of these fallen wear Plate Mail and Helmets and wield Two-Handed Swords. If killed, Reynald is worth 5,000 XP and has Potions of Extra Healing (×2) and a Potion of Fire Giant Strength. Anarg is worth 9,000 XP and has a Halberd +1, Potions of Extra Healing (×2) and a Potion of Invulnerability. Each of the four Fallen Paladins assisting them are worth 2,000 XP (8000 total), making the whole group worth 22,000 XP.
Regardless of your choice to join or not, Sir Ryan Trawl's reward is the same.
Rewards[]
Speak with Sir Ryan Trawl in the High Hall once more to return the Cup and report your success. He will give you the Gloves of Healing as a reward. Each party member receives 17,500 XP, and Reputation increased by 1.
A journal entry registers a solved quest:
- Journal entry: Seek out and investigate the Fallen Paladins
- I have killed the rogue paladin, Anarg, and dispersed the group of Fallen Paladins for Sir Ryan Trawl, the leader of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart. My good reputation has increased, along with a significant amount of Sir Ryan's goodwill.

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod revises the Fallen Paladins and Rindus slightly, by assigning advanced default AI scripts for better tactical behavior. All creatures have updated and properly assigned weapon proficiencies commensurate with their experience levels and class, in most cases revising inconsistencies in the unmodified creature game files.
Installation of the Quest Pack Mod provides a component that extends content for Reynald de Chatillon, with a chance to undertake some role-playing and partially redeem Reynald, with a potential reputation and XP reward.
