Secret Word will dispel one spell protection of 8th level or lower on a targeted creature.

Description[]

When this spell is cast at a target creature, it will dispel one spell protection of 8th level or lower. The spells that are affected by this are Minor Spell Turning, Minor Globe of Invulnerability, Spell Immunity, Spell Deflection, Spell Turning, and Spell Shield. The target's Magic Resistance, if any, does not affect this spell.

Gameplay[]

This spell is the second lowest level spell remover available in the game. It is mostly similar to Pierce Magic, except it has no Magic resistance lowering properties.

Secret Word is a 4th level spell, but its internal effect components are given a 5 Power level, and thus behaves as a 5th level spell.

When the spell is cast on a target, a spell removal animation graphic is played over the target, and a text message is displayed on the combat log reading: "Spell Protections Removed". This text appears even if the target had no spell protections present, and even if there were multiple spell protections active. Only one spell protection will be removed (from the list in the spell description above).

A Spell Shield will block this spell, and then the shield will be consumed.

Spell Immunity: Abjuration will not block this spell, even though Secret Word is an abjuration school spell.

A Secret Word may be cast on a target who is invisible, sanctuaried or hidden.

Secret Word will bypass an illusionary protection such as Reflected Image or Mirror Image, even though the internal spell effects are not flagged to do so.

The spell description is missing Shield of the Archons, Globe of Invulnerability, and Magic Resistance (spell) as spell protections that can be removed by Secret Word, but it will remove them.

Example 1: - An enemy Lich is protected by Spell Turning. Secret Word is cast to remove it, and the Lich has its Spell Turning removed, even though the Lich is immune to spells with 5 power level and below, this is an unmodified game mechanic afforded to spell protection removers. However, the Breach spell doesn't get this ability.

Example 2: - An enemy mage is protected with Globe of Invulnerability and Minor Spell Turning. A Secret Word is cast, and it will remove the Globe of Invulnerability first. The Minor Spell Deflection remains.

If two or more spell protections have equal spell levels, the Secret Word will randomly determine which spell protection is removed.

When a Secret Word spell is uttered, it will dispel one spell protection of 7th level or lower on the target. This will always dispel the highest level of spell protection on a target first. If a target has two or more protections tied for the highest level, the choice will be random. Magic resistance does not affect this spell.

The spell protection spells dispelled by Secret Word are: Minor Spell Deflection, Non-Detection, Minor Globe of Invulnerability, Spell Deflection, Dispelling Screen, Spell Shield, Globe of Invulnerability, Greater Spell Deflection, and Shield of the Archons.

Note:With SR, the mod acknowledges the quick casting time of the various "Word" spells - and matches up this spell's casting to only 1.

With the Sword Coast Stratagems mod Secret Word can't target invisible or hidden creatures (with SCS or SR or both mods) without first exposing or revealing the target creature.
