Baldur's Gate Wiki

The Sea Zombie Lord is a sea zombie that still maintains at least some level of its human intelligence. More powerful than any ordinary sea zombie, it rules over a small court of other aquatic undead and eagerly seeks to kill any living creature that stumbles into the corner of the Underwater City that it has claimed for itself.

Locations[]

A single sea zombie lord, accompanied by Sea Zombie minions, Greater Lacedon and a Lacedon, is encountered in the charnel pit of the Underwater City. (AR2300 | 2590.3145)

Gameplay[]

When this creature detects any opponent in range, it and all the pit denizens will move toward it to attack. The Sea Lord will also croak out its one line of zombie dialogue.

Though zombies are relatively sluggish in terms of movement speed, this one is under a permanent normal Haste effect.

The creature will attempt to engage in close quarters attacks with the closest party member it can detect. Its undroppable weapon is described on the Attack weapon page. If it connects upon a target, there is a 10% change of inflicting a Disease effect, that can really hurt, inflicting 6 Poison damage per second for one turn. That will eventually kill any party member who does not cure it before hit points are all gone. Additional hits are cumulative as well, so it is deadly indeed. Standard poison antidotes will suffice, or an appropriate Cleric spell.

The zombie can launch an innate ability (SPIN 666.spl) that is basically a ranged Level drain attack that bypasses Magic resistance and Power level spell protections, and ignores spell school and secondary type defences. A save vs. Death negates, or two levels are drained.

The sea zombie lord's final throes manifest in death with a Cloudkill application over the corpse. A fitting end for such a repulsive creature. Breath deeply the fragrant scent of victory. As any Cloudkill, it can be prematurely ended with Zone of Sweet Air.

  • There is actually no such thing as a sea zombie lord in the tabletop version of the game. This obvious hybrid of the sea zombie and the zombie lord (an intelligent zombie possessing a deadly miasma, though its version is active constantly) was created uniquely for Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.

Mod content[]

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod adds an extra smarter AI script to the creature for improved tactical behavior and opponent vulnerability assessment. The creature may quaff its Potion of Extra Healing if hurt to a pre-set threshold of damage.
