Baldur's Gate Wiki

Ring of the Princes (Ring of the Princes +1 in-game), also known as Ring of Protection +1 appears in all games.

It will be imported in Siege of Dragonspear if it is in the inventory of any character in the party when transitioning from Baldur's Gate.

Description[]

Ring of Protection +1: Ring of the Princes

This ring and several of its type were originally crafted to protect the sons of King Castter De'wess, though who uttered the enchantment is unknown. History records that the rings remained within that family for at least 13 generations, though they were all apparently lost within the space of one. Enmity between the King and the family of the creator may be to blame.

Gameplay[]

When equipped the ring confers the wearer with a 1-point bonus to base Armor Class value, as well as a 1-point bonus to all Saving throw values.

This ring is coded so that it cannot be equipped simultaneously with another similar item, such as another identical ring, or the The Guard's Ring, The Warder's Signet, certain magical armor, protection cloaks and some amulets etc.

These similar protection item restrictions are a carryover from the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition rules. not a game developer notion.

Trivia[]

The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset describes the Ring of Protection in much detail within the Dungeon Master's Guide.

The PnP ring versions are varied, and some of them confer an area of effect protection rather than just for the wearer. The BG video game ring versions did take some of the restrictions and abilities from the rules, but also didn't fully implement several other elements of these rings.
