The Ring of Fire Control is a magical ring in Shadows of Amn and The Black Pits I and II. It provides a fifty-percent bonus to the wearer's fire resistance. In addition, Burning Hands and a Flamestrike can be cast each once per rest by using it, and the owner is also able to charm a fire elemental.b

The Flame Strike ability here casts the Cleric spell exactly and, as the minimum damage possible with that spell is 9d8, that's what it does here when the character is not a divine caster, not the stated 6d8. If they are a divine caster (Cleric/Druid/Shaman/Ranger/Paladin), however, it'll be cast at their divine caster level (for which Paladins and Rangers have a penalty of -8 and -7, respectively). Moreover, an Invoker using this ring will apply a -2 penalty to the save.

This burnished, red ring is engraved with depictions of flames and lava coils. Mages and other planar travelers use these rings to protect themselves while visiting the Elemental Plane of Fire and to command fire elementals to do their bidding.

Statistics[]

Common through all games is the 50%-bonus to fire resistance for the wearer of the Ring of Fire Control. Using its additional abilities, however, differs heavily between editions, and the ring's descriptions contain many inconsistencies and errors. The following table lists the actual statistics.

Note: While in the original Shadows of Amn the two damaging effects are created by the ring itself, the Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition invokes the actual spells Burning Hands and Flame Strike instead.
