Returning Dradeel's Spellbook is a side quest during Balduran's Final Voyage, one of the quest arches in the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion.

Summary

Dradeel needs his spellbook to be able to end his exile and escape from the Lycanthrope Island. He asks Gorion's Ward to look for it when confronting Karoug's flock.

Walkthrough

Speak to Dradeel inside his cabin. After an interesting introduction and an account of his years (aeons?) on the island, he will implore the party to find his spellbook.

Dradeel's Spellbook

We have met an elven mage named Dradeel who seems to be a bit insane. He claims to be Balduran's friend and to have been the navigator on the hero's final voyage. He also claims that this island is infested by lycanthropes. Dradeel asked us to retrieve his spellbook from the wreck of Balduran's ship. The book supposedly lies in a chest near Balduran's cabin.

When you ask for his help in return for fetching his book you get more background information and an additional journal entry:

Dradeel says that Balduran's crew stopped at this island to replenish their supplies as they returned from a disastrous voyage to Anchorome. Some of the crew members had been infected with lycanthropy and attacked the others. Dradeel managed to escape and has been holed up in an ancient hut ever since.

It can be found inside Balduran's stranded ship wreckage known as the Wandering Eye. It is not wise to just storm in there looking for the book. The ship is infested with Wolfweres and the book is in a locked ^(Open 50) and trapped chest ^{(Disarm: 60)} on the captain's deck ^{(AR1504 | 439.268)}. Since some wolves respawn, it is best to just keep it and only return it to him once you have dealt with everything inside the ship.

When you've found the book and return it to him the party gets their experience reward and he'll leave using a Dryad Teleport and is a lot a less verbal:

Upon returning his spellbook to him, the mad elven mage, Dradeel, promptly left without so much as a thank you. Ungrateful swine! I do wonder where he's gone on this accursed island.
