This page is about the priest version of the spell. For the wizard version, see Remove Curse (wizard).
Remove Curse is a 3rd level priest spell only usable by cleric and paladin classes. It will remove/cure a curse upon a person, or an object that is cursed and equipped by that person.
It is identical to its 4th level wizard counterpart but has a longer casting time.
Description[]
| “ | Upon casting this spell, the priest is usually able to remove a curse on an object, on a person, or in the form of some undesired sending or evil presence. Note that the Remove Curse spell does not remove the curse from a cursed shield, weapon, or suit of armor, for example, although the spell typically enables the person afflicted with any such cursed item to get rid of it. Certain special curses may not be countered by this spell or may be countered only by a caster of a certain level or more. | ” |
Gameplay[]
The caster applies this spell to one creature or self only.
Contrary to the spell's description this spell can't be used on an object, only a creature.
When the spell is finished the spell recipient will show a brief color fade and 3D graphic effect upon their sprite.
A text will also display, reading "Remove Curse".
This spell administers effect codes #26 and #283 which removes various curse effects from the targeted creature in one go.
This will also remove any portrait icons on the targeted creature titled "Cursed".
This spell can also allow a character to unequip an item that is cursed.
Note that this spell won't work against all curses in the game. For example, the curse applied to Jaheira during the Save Jaheira from Baron Ployer's Curse quest is too powerful for this spell to remove it.
Notes[]
This spell will remove the effect of the "Fool" card from the Deck of Many Things and the Strength (card) which might be drawn during The Gambling Cambion event in the Watcher's Keep Teleport Maze adventure.
Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition priest spell Remove Curse is commonly known for clerics and druids.
The spell differs from the BG video game's version. For instance, this spell has a chance to cure lycanthropy and has a reversible ability to Bestow Curse on a victim for a limited time determined by a random d100 roll.
Mod content[]
This section is about unofficial content that is only available via fan-made mods.
Spell Revisions mod has removed the "Remove Curse" spell from the game, and replaced it with the following:
Break Enchantment
Level: 3
School: Abjuration
Sphere: All
Range: Short
Duration: Permanent
Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Saving Throw: None
Upon casting this spell, the priest is able to free a victim from enchantments and curses. The spell can reverse the effects of confusion and feeblemindedness, free a victim from magical sleep or charm, and break the effects of a curse. Note that Break Enchantment cannot remove the curse from a cursed shield, weapon, or suit of armor, for example, but allows those afflicted with any such cursed item to get rid of it. Certain special curses may not be countered by this spell, or may be countered only by a caster of a certain level or through a particular ritual.
