The Arena is a district of Athkatla added by the Region of Terror mod.

Your party can come here at any time to fight duels and earn valuable prizes.

How to get there[]

Four town-criers, at the following locations in Athkatla, announce the arena:

Talk to one of them, and they mark "The Arena" on your worldmap (in between the other Athkatla districts).

Walkthrough[]

Fighter duels[]

Participate in a Fighter competition as follows:

  • Enter the arena office, and talk to the bottom-right staff member to be taken to the Fighter registration room.
  • Talk to the staff member in the registration room to register a contestant for 1000 gp.
    (It's best to use your desired contestant as the speaker for this conversation, to ensure that the option to pick them comes up.[note 1])
    You can choose between:
  • Which competition you get depends purely on your characters' experience level[note 1], and not on the calendar. (The staffers talk about different competition "days", but that's just fluff.)
    The registration staff member tells you which pit to go to.
  • Back outdoors, go to the pit you were assigned to (southern or northern), and talk to the staff member next to it.
  • Your contestant is teleported into the pit, and has to beat a series of opponents.
    • In between opponents, a Heal spell is cast on you – but you don't get time to rest.
    • The opponents do not drop any loot.
    • If you die, a Resurrection spell is cast on you, and you lose the competition.
    • EXPLOIT: Your other party members can actually help in the duels (with missile weapons etc.), if they stand close enough to the pit.
  • Once you've killed the last opponent of the competition, you are teleported back out of the pit. Enter the arena office again, and talk to the bottom-left staff member there to be taken to the prize chamber.
  • Talk to the staff member in the prize chamber, and then click the wall statue that he points out to get your prize. (The chamber has one statue for each competition.)

You can return and do another competition once you fulfil its requirements (see the table above), but you cannot do the same competition twice.

Mage duels[]

  • Enter the arena office, and talk to the top-right staff member to send one of your level 15+ mage party members to the mage competition. The possible choices are:
  • The contestant is teleported to the mages arena, where another staff member greets them and explains that they must kill monsters to qualify for the competition.

    BUG:contestant stuck/unselectable
    On version 4.0 of the mod on BG2:EE, the game gets stuck after this conversation, with no party member selectable. You can get "un-stuck" using the following cheat console command, followed by clicking your contestant's portrait. (You can use copy & paste. Use the version of the command that matches your chosen contestant.)

  • When all monsters are dead, report back to the staff member at the mages arena entrance, to start the actual competition.
  • The contestant must now beat a series of 5 powerful mage opponents.
    • In between opponents, the contestant automatically rests, but you may not save the game.
    • The opponents do not drop any loot.
    • If you die, a Resurrection spell is cast on you, and you lose the competition.
  • Once you've killed the last opponent of the competition, talk to the staff member again to exit the mages arena and receive your prize.

Crossmod content[]

Some mods provide their fighter or mage NPCs with the feature to participate in the respective duels. Additional options are introduced to the choices by those mods. This detail is not part of this walkthrough but should be described on the corresponding mod pages. (Such content only appears in game if NPC mods are installed after RoT.)
