Baldur's Gate Wiki
This page is about the priest spell that restores lost hit points over time. For this ability in general, see Regeneration.

Regeneration is a 7th level spell available to all Divine magic casting classes in Baldur's Gate II and the enhanced edition.

Description[]

This powerful spell enables the priest to imbue one creature with the ability to regenerate. This regeneration will heal any wounds and even regenerate lost limbs. The creature affected will regain 3 Hit Points per second. The effect lasts for 1 round per 2 levels of the caster or until dispelled. For example, a 14th-level priest would regenerate 18 Hit Points per round for 7 rounds.

Gameplay[]

The caster applies this spell to one creature or self if desired, at a touch distance.

When the spell cast is finished, the caster's fingertips manifest a necromancy school casting animation, and the recipient has a green colored column of energy render over their sprite for a few seconds, and a text will display <RECIPIENT>: Regenerating.

A party member will show an icon (No. 87) titled "Regenerating" on their portrait for the spell's duration, and a sound effect will audible when it expires.

The spell's powers restore 3 hit points every second for the spell's duration - which lasts from 7 to 10 rounds as determined by the caster's priest level.

This spell can potentially be removed by any applicable Dispel Magic effect.

The game allows other forms of Regeneration to be active on the same creature at the same time, including two or more applications of this spell - which can rapidly deliver substantial hit point recovery in a short span of time.

Additionally, regeneration rate is altered by the Slow effect and Haste effect.

Trivia[]

The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset provides several different spells that can regenerate and heal wounds over time, including:

The PnP rules allow regenerative spells to be cast before or after any wounds exist, and the spells generally have a duration lasting several days per level of the caster - the spell's power can regenerate damage over time, and the spell ceases once its regeneration capacity is reached.

Each spell also has a reversible form, and a spell may be cast to apply a degenerate wounds version, or wither.

The ruleset also addresses lost limbs and body parts with the Regenerate spell - allowing body members (fingers, toes, hands, feet, arms, legs, tails, or even heads of multi-headed creatures), bones, and organs to grow back.

The BG video game just added one 7th-level priest spell that has a regeneration ability to the game, although implemented with different powers and much shorter duration.
