Baldur's Gate Wiki

Reevor's Storehouse, also known as Reevor's rats[1] and Killing Rats,[2] is a side quest during the Prologue of Baldur's Gate.

Reevor has once again pressed me into service in his storehouse. All reports suggest that our feline forces have turned traitor and that the rats are on the offensive. It appears that I am our last hope in the face of such an awesome display of power. Farewell, dear Journal... Farewell.

— Journal: Reevor's Storehouse[3]

Reevor, in chain mail and with a battle axe in his hand, stands idle in front of the storehouse in Candlekeep. He reacts harsh, though, if talked to, thinking he asked Gorion's Ward already yesterday "to clean the rats out of this building."[4]

Hop to it! Get in there!

— Reevor[4]

Entering the storehouse will indeed reveal that the two cats present there do as much against the five rats as the master himself: nothing. The rats, however, immediately attack; and – depending on the Ward's class, combat abilities and equipment – at least three simultaneous opponents can mean a tough fight at this point of time (the two other rats may stay in the southeastern corner until they notice the "intruder").

Leaving the storehouse after the "glorious battle"[5] and speaking with Reevor again will yield experience and a few gold pieces (see also bugs) – alongside the superabundant advice not to "spend it all in one place."[5]

Mental note: Don't join the armed forces. They never inform you of the full danger when you enter, and they always pay you squat when you leave. Reevor gave me all of 5 gold pieces for putting my life on the line in there. Isn't there a Candlekeep People's Revolutionary Front I can join somewhere?!

— Journal: Reevor's Storehouse (Finished)[6]

The meager reward can be sweetened a bit with a silver ring that is found in a barrel in the storehouse.

Gathering the reward is endlessly repeatable in the original Baldur's Gate by speaking to Reevor again and again after having killed all five rats. This is fixed in the Enhanced Edition.
