A Red Potion temporarily makes some drastic changes to the imbiber in various extreme ways.
Anyone except a Wizard Slayer may consume this potion, and the effects will last for 24-hours.
This potion is a rare item in the game.
Like the Violet Potion, it is offered to the protagonist with a wildly misleading description in an attempt at a rip-off — but at only 12.5% of its true value. Even a cautious Gorion’s Ward who refuses to drink such strange concoctions can still turn it into a profitable investment by selling it elsewhere.
Description[]
| “ | Close examination reveals this liquid to be very peculiar in nature. It could be a sorcerer's dream, but that would depend entirely on who you asked. After ingesting the mixture, the drinker becomes the weakest, most unwise, yet incredibly intelligent person to have ever lived, with an innate 50% Magic Damage Resistance as well. The effects remain for an entire 24 hours, so think carefully before unplugging the cork. | ” |
Gameplay[]
When the user quaffs this potion, a sound effect is heard in game, and another will be audible when the potion's duration expires. Certain lighting effects and a color fade briefly render over the user after drinking the potion.
This potion can be successfully used, even if it isn't identified, which is unusual, and a notable exception.
The potion provides the following effects:
- Intelligence attribute is set to 25.
- Wisdom attribute is set to 3.
- Strength attribute is set to 3.
- +50% Magical damage resistance modifier is bestowed.
The potion's effects are subject to being dispelled.
After imbibing the potion, there are various methods to further alter and overcome the Wisdom and Strength issues using spells or other potions to modify the setting values - but be aware that the original potion has a longer duration than most other ones, so any changes may not work for the Red Potion's full duration.

Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset has no "Red Potion" or equivalent listed in the Dungeons Masters Guide (DMG) or the Encyclopedia Magica.
This item looks to be an invention of the game developers for the BG video game.
