Protection from Lightning is a 4th level priest spell. It bestows and sets resistance to lightning/electricity damage.

Description[]

When the spell is cast, it confers complete invulnerability to electrical attacks such as Lightning Bolt, Shocking Grasp, and so on. The protection will last for the duration of the spell or until successfully dispelled.

Gameplay[]

The caster applies this to a single creature or self - it has a range of basically "touch" distance.

When the spell casting is finished the recipient will show a brief color fade, a lighting effect and a 3D graphic rendered on their sprite.

A text will display, reading "Protection From Electricity".

Additionally, a sound effect will audible when the spell expires.

A player character will show an icon (No. 27) titled "Protection From Electricity" on their portrait for the spell's duration, and a sound effect will audible when it expires.

This spell will bestow the recipient with Electricity damage resistance set to 100%.

This spell can be removed by any applicable Dispel Magic source or with a Breach spell.

Multiple applications of this spell on the same creature will not increase electricity resistance over 100%; the most current application will refresh the spell's duration.

The spell is compatible with other sources of electricity damage resistance boosting, for example, the Protection From Electricity (protection scroll) and the Armor of Faith spell.

The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition priest spell Protection from Lightning is commonly known by druids.

The effect of a protection from lightning spell changes depending on who is the recipient of the magic—the caster or some other creature. In either case, the spell lasts no longer than one turn per caster level.

If the spell is applied upon the caster, it confers complete invulnerability to electrical attack such as dragon breath, or magical lightning such as lightning bolt, shocking grasp, storm giant, will 'o wisp, etc., until the spell has absorbed 10 points of electrical damage per level of the caster, at which time the spell is negated.

If the spell is cast upon another creature, it gives a bonus of +4 to the die roll for saving throws made vs. electrical attacks, and it reduces the damage sustained from such attacks by 50%.

There is also another 4th level priest spell titled Protection from Electricity, which is very rare for clerics to know - the protected creature receives a +4 bonus to saving throws against electrical attacks, natural or magical. Any electrical damage received is reduced by 50%. If the saving throw is successful, then any secondary effects the electrical attack may have (stunning, paralysis, and so on) are negated.

When a Protection from Electricity spell is cast, the recipient receives complete protection from all electrical-based attacks, whether magical or non-magical in origin. 100% of the damage from attacks like electric dragon breath will be absorbed, and the target creature will become completely immune to the effects of spells such as Lightning Bolt, Glyph of Warding, Call Lightning, and Chain Lightning. Multiple castings of this spell are not cumulative.

Note: This spell is usable by all Divine spell casting classes.
