Baldur's Gate Wiki

Prism is an artist from Nashkel who is encountered in the Nashkel Mines area.

After having stolen some emeralds, he moved to the Nashkel Mines, where he has been working for days without sleep on a sculpture of Ellesime, a queen of the elves he once saw on a trip to Evereska. The emeralds shall become the sparkling eyes of his work which he is carving out of a rock.

'Tis a monument to my foolishness. I saw her but once, on the outskirts of Evereska, and said nothing. I let thee pass from mine eyes, and mine heart hath cursed me for it!

Like Oublek, he first takes Gorion's Ward for Greywolf or his henchmen, who he assumes will be after him for the theft. The party then can decide how to progress with the quest Prism the Sculptor.

Notes[]

  • In the original Baldur's Gate the emeralds are on Prism's person regardless of how he dies. The Enhanced Edition added the container slots within each of the sculpture's eyes in which Prism places the emeralds before he dies, but only if Greywolf has been killed, otherwise they are still found on his person when he dies.
  • In the original campaign, if Greywolf kills Prism, he leaves the emeralds. In the enhanced edition he takes the emeralds.

Trivia[]

Prism is mention by four different characters in the Shadows of Amn and once during the Gladiators of Thay:

Dawnbringer Sain in the Temple of Lathander

Athkatla is blessed with the presence of perhaps the greatest sculptor of our age... at least, since the death of Prism of Nashkel. What a loss he was to us.

Guardian Telwyn in the Temple of Helm

Athkatla is lucky to have an exceptional artist visiting, second only perhaps to that poor Prism of Nashkel. What a loss was his death to us

High Watcher Oisig in the Temple of Helm —

And why not? It resembles the works of Prism, though of course it cannot be. It has an odd look to it, like the time between the dark and the dawn. I find it pleasing.

Talon Yarryl in the Temple of Talos

There is more to be done. An artist visits Athkatla now. Only Prism of Nashkel was more accomplished, but his work was sickly sweet and his death deserved.

Dennation before Tier 1 - Battle 5 —  [verification needed]

Volo wrote the History of the Sword Coast. Prism sculpted the Mask of Ellesime. I shall create the greatest spectacle of gore seen this side of the Blood War. I need only the proper tools. Help me, everyone. Help me entertain YOU!
